“When you look good you feel good, and when you feel good you look good”

– Kimberly Nissen, The Plastic Diaries founder and editor.

The Plastic Diaries beauty blog goes far beyond your everyday beauty needs. Everything featured on this site addresses our core belief that if you look and feel good you will be the best possible version of yourself. We believe ‘beauty’ means more than just skincare and makeup. We believe beauty is beyond skin deep.

This blog is devoted to everyday women who want to look and feel their absolute best. Our path to realizing this was unconventional, but the result was life changing. The Plastic Diaries was born in 2008 when editor Kimberly Nissen planned her own journey with plastic surgery. Having found no insightful information about the procedure online, Kimberly decided to create a site to record her own experiences and thus make it available for women who do the same research in the future. The Plastic Diaries quickly evolved to focus on all topics of beauty and wellbeing, and now we share our daily experiences with beauty, our quest to be the best version of ourself and the interesting things we learn on the way. There’s tips to get you looking your best, reviews of products you have heard chatter about (and lots you haven’t!), swatches of colour cosmetics, and answers to all your beauty questions (including the questions you never knew you had).

We don’t use big fancy words. We don’t pretend to be scientists or doctors. What we deliver to you is useful, down-to-earth conversation and informed opinions based on real-life experiences. Hot topics, breaking news and well-researched articles educate and entertain you, subtly transforming you into a knowledgeable consumer capable of cutting through the smoke & mirrors the beauty industry relies on dazzling you with to part you with your money. We go beyond the conventional beauty realm to address topics like caring for your mind & body, finding your own style, where to travel for a much-needed break, and which spa you should visit for the ultimate pamper session. We are shopaholics and help our like-minded ladies get the most out of their dollars and their experiences.

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Dermaquest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser

Face cleansers are seen as quite an underrated product in terms of our overall skincare needs, but they’re actually really important. The correct cleanser for your skin should remove dirt, debris and build-up that otherwise gets in the way of your other skincare products delivering their best results. A vast majority of skin issues can be activated simply by using the wrong cleanser. When it comes to anti-aging, it’s essential to not use a face cleanser that is drying or stripping. Hydration is key, and that’s one of the major claims behind the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser.

As I continue my fight against aging and dry skin I’ve tested the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser. Is it worth the price tag? Read on to find out.  Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
