I bet you’ve heard all about coconut oil lately. It’s popping up in recipes, beauty tutorials and all kinds of health advice, but do you know just how many things you can actually use it for? One jar of coconut oil can be a little more expensive than your regular olive oil but you’ll be surprised just how much you can get out of it. I’ve tracked down all the best health, wellness and beauty uses for coconut oil to show you how one jar of natural oil can be the most budget-friendly and healthy product in your kitchen. 

Beauty Uses

  1. The ultimate body oil. Apply to your skin straight after showering instead of moisturising.
  2. Ditch the shaving cream because coconut oil will allow you to get a closer, smoother shave while moisturizing skin at the same time.
  3. Combine coconut oil with coarse sea salt or sugar to create an effective face and body scrub.
  4. Apply to chapped skin around your nose, especially during a cold/flu.
  5. Use as nipple cream during breastfeeding.

  7. Ease the pain of hemorrhoids.
  8. Repel insects by making your own insect repellent. Combine coconut oil and peppermint extract, then rub all over exposed skin before going outside.

  10. Heel tattoos and prevent infection.
  11. Add to your bath water for skin nourishment.

Health Uses

  1. Replace regular oil with coconut oil in recipes that require you to cook at a high heat. Some oils become unsafe to consume at a high heat.
  2. Replace your caffeine energy boost with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil per day.
  3. 2 tablespoons per day can boost your metabolism.

  6. Assists in balancing good vs bad cholesterol.
  7. Can assist in weight loss
  8. A delicious substitute for butter for cooking, baking and non-cooked dishes.
