Hair Expo Australia is one of my favourite ways to spend a long weekend. Each year the Australian and international hair industry comes together to put on a weekend of learning, demonstration and celebration. Taking up two massive halls at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, and countless convention rooms, the industry comes together and creates a vibe that can only be experienced to understand. The one word that comes to mind is unity. Of course every business and hairdresser are forever competing to be the best in their field, but on the weekend that is Hair Expo it is like there is no competition, just friendship and a place to enjoy what they love. What that means for me is a place where I feel in my element to explore beauty, and while Hair Expo is not a “shopping” expo and it is for trade only, it places me in a state of mind where I just want to spend. I want to try everything and anything. So at the few stands who were selling things that I didn’t already own, I bought some items that were on my wishlist. Here is what I hauled:
What can I say about OPI? I have 400 odd bottles of their nail lacquers and I still cannot have enough. The OPI Designer Series (DS) range is something I have never even seen in person, but from all the swatches online I knew I needed to get my hands on some. When I saw the stand at Hair Expo I stood there staring for a good 10 minutes (then I whipped out my phone and took some photos for Instagram!).
I allowed myself to pick just two lacquers and that was really tough for me, but I settled on DS Extravagance and DS Temptation.
Australia $24.95 from David Jones and professional salons.
UK £16.75 from Lena White
I remember seeing these weird little contraptions at Hair Expo previously but I honestly thought they were just a bunch of hot air until I had it used on my hair at a salon. Oh my god, my world was changed. I was amazed how easily these brushes go through wet or dry hair without any pulling or snagging. With fine hair like mine it loves to tangle during washing and even a wide toothed comb can be troublesome for me. When I saw them for sale at Hair Expo this year I couldn’t pass them up.
They had a special offer which was 2 for $40 so that was all I needed to convince me to grab the new Aqua Splash which is specially designed for use in the shower (it stands up so the water can drip out of the bristles) and the Compact Styler for traveling. Picking the colours were the hardest part. I went with Pink Shrimp for my shower because who doesn’t love a little neon pink in the morning? And for the compact I went with Shaun The Sheep because I thought the sheep were cute and I am the crazy animal lady.
Australia $32.95 (Aqua Splash) and $34.95 (Compact Styler) from Tangle Teezer Australia
If you work in the hair industry, or really any industry that incorporates hair (i.e. makeup artistry, beauty retailer, etc) you definitely should visit Hair Expo in 2014.
