Prevent Child Abuse with Polished Man

Do you love a Polished Man? I sure do! A man who isn’t afraid to fight for change and be a voice to those who don’t have one … that’s damn sexy.

If you’re already familiar with The Plastic Diaries you know I have trouble keeping quiet about the big issues facing humankind, but rarely have I attempted to speak to a male audience. However, the month of October sees the continuation of a relatively new (but rapidly growing) annual initiative and I for one want to get behind it. Let me introduce you to Polished Man, an innovative fundraising campaign by YGAP, which encourages men to paint one fingernail during 1-15 October, to represent the 1 in 5 children who experience violence.

How you can help

Polished Man is all about spreading the message that child abuse in any form is NOT ACCEPTABLE. While this campaign is focusing on physical and/or sexual abuse, I want to add that mental abuse is not acceptable either. Here is how you can help:

MEN: Grab some nail polish and paint 1 finger nail. It doesn’t have to be neat or pretty. When someone asks you (and you bet they will!), “What’s with the nail?” you have the perfect opportunity to inform them of some facts and help spread the message.

WOMEN: Rally behind the men in your life and tell them to become a Polished Man. Your father, brother, boyfriend, coworkers …. any and every man can be a supporter of change. Share this message with them!

If you want to go one further you can also donate to the campaign or help spread the message via social media with the hashtag #polishedman.
