Selfridges The Beauty Project 2014
Britain’s favourite department store is in the middle of an epic beauty-focused event that has me tempted to jump a ride to London. Selfridges is taking a look at the business of beauty from a holistic point of view with The Beauty Project, an in-store and online event running until June 12.

A fragrance lab, yoga, manicures, dairy-free delights in the food hall and more are taking place in their London, Birmingham and Manchester stores but the one thing that has me super excited is something we can all enjoy from the comfort of our own home. For this special event a bunch of top beauty brands have created special-edition releases exclusive for The Beauty Project. Thank to the awesome international shipping option at Selfridges, no one has to miss out on these limited edition beauty must-haves. Continue Reading

Next Generation Skincare Classics

There are some beauty products that have such a cult following that the brands have dared not tinker with them for decades. They are the products that are considered “classics”, the staple of a beauty regime for thousands (if not millions) of women. Every beauty brand hopes to have just one of their products rise to such infamy but few rarely do. So why on earth would the lucky handful of brands that do have such a product decide to reformulate it? There is only one answer – technology.

I’ve been taking a look back at some of the beauty worlds most popular products and I’ve seen that in the past 2 years many of the skincare products have been reformulated. The reasoning behind it appears to be the technological advances rippling through the beauty industry. New ingredients, better ways of harvesting and preserving ingredients, the desire for more natural/organic ingredients and of course, plain old science can now tell us more about the human body than it ever has before thus making beauty products have a new requirement to perform and prove their results.

Take a stroll with me as we look at the next generation of some of your favourite cult beauty products.  Continue Reading

Top 50 Beauty

When you hear “Top 50 Most Influential People in Beauty” few would think a beauty blogger would fall into that selection. You would probably think of celebrities, fashion designers, makeup artists, beauty retailers and frankly anyone other than a blogger. However, for one very well deserving blogger, it’s undeniable that her influence is far greater than many of those you may initially consider and it has been cemented by the fact she has been included on a list created by one of the world’s leading authorities on the matter.

WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) is the industry insider in all things fashion and beauty. A few days ago WWD Beauty Inc announced first annual list of the power players who are shaping the beauty business today. You will see in the list below that there are a few surprises (including one of our favourite Australian retailers) but one that is no surprise to me or anyone that reads her blog is that of Christine Mielke of TemptaliaContinue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
