NYFW Beauty Products

You saw what I took in my beauty bag to New York Fashion Week but what about my makeup bag? Picking which makeup I take away with me is definitely the hardest task I have to face when travelling. It would be like choosing which one of your kids gets to travel with you, except the criteria I look at for my choices comes down to versatility, reliability and proven success at making me look good. Rarely will I take a makeup product that I’ve never used before because I don’t have the room to take more than one of each item …. except for lipstick of course. And eyeshadows. And lashes.

As I did with my beauty bag, I try to take miniature and deluxe sized samples where possible and palettes for items where I need a choice of a few colours, excluding lipsticks because I usually need to carry the lipstick around with me all day for touch-ups.

Without further ado, here’s the makeup that landed in my suitcase.  Continue Reading

Best new beauty product launches

Eeeek, is that really the date already? I know August is well and truly over but I can’t pass up sharing my favourites for the month. As for the delay in posting it, well, I blame New York Fashion Week. You’ll soon see why that took up so much of my time.

It was a somewhat slow month for new launches, with only 28 new products gracing my desk, but nearly all of them grabbed my attention and many of them will be fronting some big advertising campaigns over the coming months. I’m sure this won’t be the first nor last you see of them Continue Reading

Black Forest Beauty Products

One of my favourite desserts is Black Forest Cake. The mixture of chocolate and cherries go so well together and the rich colours make it feel extra decadent. After recently creating this masterpiece vegan black forest cake it made me realise how beautiful that choc-cherry colour is. I instantly started wearing it on my nails, lips and cheeks.

Now that Fall is arriving in the top half of the world, I thought I would share my favourite shade of the season for you to all join in on. Here are my top picks of Black Forest-inspired beauty.  Continue Reading

Day to Night Makeup Tutorial

This post is sponsored by Uniformdating.com

Did you know that Australia is a nation of uniform lovers? A recent survey by Uniformdating.com found 82% of Aussies would consider entering into a relationship with a man or woman in uniform – and of course we would, they’re not only sexy but they are heroes. They are the nurses who treat us when we are sick, the flight attendants who will save our lives if our plane loses an engine and we plummet from the sky, the lifeguards who drag tourists from the water at Bondi Beach who didn’t realise you need to know how to swim. Many of my friends work uniform jobs and the one common complaint I hear amongst them is that the thing they least feel like doing after working a 10-12hour shift is dressing up and going out to meet and mingle at a bar to find a partner.

I may not be able to help you find a hot date – that’s what Uniformdating.com do, my matchmaking skills are shocking – but I can help you once you have lined up a date with a uniformed hottie. The majority of my uniformed friends are nurses, doctors, paramedics and army personnel. They work tough jobs and have to keep their beauty look functional – hair off the face, no flamboyant colours, etc. With this in mind I’ve created a quick makeup tutorial for the gorgeous ladies who are going from the end of a long shift out to meet their date. These simple tricks will turn your conservative life-saving look into smoking-hot, may-need-to-call-another-uniformed-hero show stopper.  Continue Reading

Rico Zombie Boy with Normal Skin

That guy looks like a regular, spunky dude, doesn’t he? Nothing all that flash. Some good cheekbones, a bad-boy gaze, attitude …. doesn’t really appear to need a makeover. Actually, that photo above IS THE MAKEOVER.

Say Whaaaat Eddie Murphy Coming To America

Say whaaaat?

This post is going to show you just how incredible makeup really is. While most of our everyday interactions with makeup may just be to add a little colour to our lives, the fact is that makeup can and does much more than that. I’ve always believed makeup isn’t just for the use of shallow humans who desire to improve their looks for frivolous reasons. No reason for using makeup is without purpose and I do believe whatever that purpose may be is perfectly acceptable.

These beauty transformations will show you that makeup is a powerful tool, and one that has changed many lives.  Continue Reading

Best Vegan Skincare Brands

Everyone has their own opinion on what skincare should do and be, but for me it’s all about aiming for perfection. I don’t want skincare that does the bare minimum and let’s me age gracefully. I only want to use skincare that WORKS – constantly improving my skin and getting it to function at it’s very best. That’s why I’m sharing with you the best vegan skincare brands.

People often confuse my choice to be vegan as somehow meaning I don’t care about my aesthetics any more. They couldn’t be more wrong! My strict standards for top performing skincare isn’t lessened by my cruelty-free choices. If anything, it makes my standards even higher.

There’s a misconception that cruelty-free and vegan skincare is unable subpar; that they’re less effective than animal-based skincare formulations. While this may have been the case decades ago when vegan skincare exclusively meant “natural” products with little to no scientific basis, skincare development has come a long way since then. Don’t get me wrong, there are still hundreds of natural skincare brands out there that do exactly what I don’t want – they don’t improve your skin, they just make it feel and smell nice – and there is a market for those. Not everyone is deathly afraid of aging like me. However, if you strive for clear, healthy and progressively improving skin despite the years passing us by, than I have exactly what you need.

My list of top performing skincare brands will introduce you to the changemakers. The hard-working, highly efficient skincare that allows you to take charge of your own aging appearance. And it just so happens they’re also the best vegan skincare brands too!  Continue Reading
