Lip Beauty Spot Pre-Op 4

Since I was a child I’ve had a beauty spot on my lip. Some call it a freckle, some a sun spot, some people (a lot of people!) even thought I just liked to chew on pens …. whatever you call it doesn’t matter, the fact is it was growing and spreading. It had been monitored all my life by dentists, GP’s and dermatologists and even though all of them said I had nothing to be concerned about, it still worried me about how often it was changing. From past experience I had learnt that just because a doctor says something doesn’t look like cancer doesn’t make it so. I didn’t want to run that risk any longer.

On Thursday I had my wisdom teeth out and I decided at the same time I would like my beauty spot removed. If you follow me on social media you probably would have seen some before shots but I wanted to update you quickly on how it’s going. The surgeon underestimated how big and deep the spot was. Not to be a pessimist but I always knew this spot was more trouble than it looked.  Continue Reading

5 Things You Need To Know About Tattoo Removal

Did you know that I don’t have a single piercing or tattoo? People are always surprised when I tell them I don’t even have my ears pierced, and my friends never remember so I’ve received earrings as birthday gifts more often than I can count. For me, piercings are off limits purely because of my fear of pain. Tattoos on the other hand, while I definitely fear the pain of getting one I also fear that I wouldn’t like what I get after a few years (or decades). I think Tattoos on young skin look amazing, but what happens as I get older, saggier, wrinklier? I don’t feel comfortable getting a tattoo until I think tattoo removal is a viable option, so I thought I should actually look into it.

I have lots of friends with amazing tattoos, some of them got them as teenagers and despite the 20 years that have passed they still look amazing. However, I feel that knowing my luck I would get something that would age terribly. Would tattoo removal be an option for me? Is the technology advanced enough to really remove every last trace? I asked Dr. Mary Dingley, a leading specialist in cosmetic injectables and laser technology, to tell me what I need to know about tattoo removal.  Continue Reading

Cosmetic Acupuncture

FACE LIFT. Have you thought about those words a little (or a lot) of recent? When our skin, eyes and mouth start to head south it is common to believe the only way to see a change would be with a face lift. While I do believe plastic surgery has a very important role to play, I also believe there are other things one can do before looking at the most extreme options. One treatment you probably haven’t thought about is ‘Cosmetic Acupuncture’. I most definitely wouldn’t have thought about it until recently because I didn’t even know such a thing existed, but with the popularity of chinese medicine becoming more popular in western cultures I think this could be the next big thing in facials.

To learn a bit more about what exactly cosmetic acupuncture is and what you could expect from it, I have asked Dr Andrea Galgoczi-Kratochvil, a Chinese medicine specialist and expert in cosmetic acupuncture, a few questions.

What are the key differences between cosmetic acupuncture and invasive options?

Cosmetic acupuncture is a natural facial rejuvenation program that does not alter essential facial characteristics; it increases blood supply, assists with regeneration of the epidermis and breaks up tangled collagen fibers that cause wrinkle formation. Cosmetic acupuncture is chemical free; using only very fine needles to naturally relax and tone muscles by improving collagen and elastin production.

Cosmetic acupuncture is a centuries old process that was used by concubines in Ancient China to maintain their youthful appearance. Dating back to the Shui Dynasty Chinese Physicians have looked at how the flow of energy within the body can affect an individualʼs physical appearance.

Cosmetic acupuncture not only assists with the preservation of ones youthful looks, but it also improves the underlying weaknesses of the body. Continue Reading
