Holiday 2016 Beauty Advent Calendars

Advent Calendars used to be a childish gimmick reserved for confectionary and toy brands, but thank heavens for the handful of beauty brands who started releasing them a few years ago because now they are one of the HOTTEST gifts on the market. Everyone from department stores, beauty brands and beauty retailers seem to offer a version now so we are looking at the very best of them for 2016 to help you make your choice.

Unfortunately, many sell out the minute they are released and by the time you see them touted by your favourite Instgrammers you’ve already missed out. Don’t worry though, there are still heaps around that you’ll love. Treat yo’self, ladies!  Continue Reading

Prevent Child Abuse with Polished Man

Do you love a Polished Man? I sure do! A man who isn’t afraid to fight for change and be a voice to those who don’t have one … that’s damn sexy.

If you’re already familiar with The Plastic Diaries you know I have trouble keeping quiet about the big issues facing humankind, but rarely have I attempted to speak to a male audience. However, the month of October sees the continuation of a relatively new (but rapidly growing) annual initiative and I for one want to get behind it. Let me introduce you to Polished Man, an innovative fundraising campaign by YGAP, which encourages men to paint one fingernail during 1-15 October, to represent the 1 in 5 children who experience violence.  Continue Reading

Best new beauty products of December 2014

December may be the busiest month of activity in almost every respect but when it comes to new beauty launches there is very little going on. The opening of Sephora Australia was definitely the biggest beauty launch on my calendar but in other news there have been very few new beauty products hitting shelves this month.

Nevertheless, there were still lots of goodies to make my monthly task difficult. I’ve culled through over 20 new launches to show you my top picks. Continue Reading

Beauty Gift Guide for Beginners

When I was a teenager I was very curious about makeup and beauty products, and I was extremely lucky that I had a mother who never stopped me from exploring that interest. My mother wasn’t a major consumer of beauty products but she owned makeup and I had seen her use it, and she went to the beautician every now and then but to me it was like a foreign world that I longed to explore. My mother would let me buy little makeup kits or palettes every now and then, or she would buy me them as a treat, and thinking of this memory it hit me that they were some of the best gifts I had ever received.

I’ve posted a number of Beauty gift guides over the past few weeks but this one I’m dedicating to the girls and women who are just toeing with their interest in beauty. Whether it be you or someone you know, someone aged 8 or 48 … there comes a time for most women when that interest is sparked, and when nurtured and allowed to run free it can grow to become something wonderful. As I’ve always believed, beauty products aren’t a selfish commodity, they are a tool of creativity, of art and of self-expression. Continue Reading

Best Vegan Skincare Brands

Everyone has their own opinion on what skincare should do and be, but for me it’s all about aiming for perfection. I don’t want skincare that does the bare minimum and let’s me age gracefully. I only want to use skincare that WORKS – constantly improving my skin and getting it to function at it’s very best. That’s why I’m sharing with you the best vegan skincare brands.

People often confuse my choice to be vegan as somehow meaning I don’t care about my aesthetics any more. They couldn’t be more wrong! My strict standards for top performing skincare isn’t lessened by my cruelty-free choices. If anything, it makes my standards even higher.

There’s a misconception that cruelty-free and vegan skincare is unable subpar; that they’re less effective than animal-based skincare formulations. While this may have been the case decades ago when vegan skincare exclusively meant “natural” products with little to no scientific basis, skincare development has come a long way since then. Don’t get me wrong, there are still hundreds of natural skincare brands out there that do exactly what I don’t want – they don’t improve your skin, they just make it feel and smell nice – and there is a market for those. Not everyone is deathly afraid of aging like me. However, if you strive for clear, healthy and progressively improving skin despite the years passing us by, than I have exactly what you need.

My list of top performing skincare brands will introduce you to the changemakers. The hard-working, highly efficient skincare that allows you to take charge of your own aging appearance. And it just so happens they’re also the best vegan skincare brands too!  Continue Reading
