Workout Fashion
A recent study proved that if you wear appropriate workout gear that not only functions well but looks good, you are more likely to continue exercise and achieve greater results. My one and only new years resolution in 2014 is get fit and tone up. Sure, it has superficial motives because I want to look hot but nevertheless the goal is still the same. I wan’t to rock this task so I thought I better take a look at my workout wardrobe. The result? I have nothing!

I’ve commenced group personal training to start out the year. The worst part about having nothing but old t-shirts and track pants with worn-out elastic is that not only do I feel bad because I know I look bad, but I feel even worse because people can see me look this bad. It definitely makes me want to stop exercising and run to hide under my doona. I guess that study was right!

My goal is a workout wardrobe makeover. Here’s my shopping list: Continue Reading

Stomach Bloating Woman

Prior to becoming vegan I had a long-term relationship with bloating. I would bloat as soon as I ate or drank something and the pain would last for hours, usually easing just in time for my next meal. It was uncomfortable, it impacted negatively on my life and most of all it made me feel & look bad. Due to a major diet and lifestyle change I no longer have those issues but I know many people who do. My recommendation is moving to a plant-based diet, it has worked wonders for me, but I was curious if there were other ways to relieve a bloating gut so I asked celebrity nutritionist and chef, Zoe Bingley-Pullin, for her recommendations.

We know you are going to have a bit of bloating happening over the coming weeks but take these tips into account and the pain won’t be as bad. Continue Reading

Woman Lower Back Pain image source

I have a terrible back. Like, really terrible. If you were to guess my age based entirely on how often I throw my back out you would probably put me at around 80 years old. The problem is that I know exactly what is wrong with it – I have a weak back. I sit on a computer day & night, I don’t exercise as much as I should, my boobs are getting heavier the more weight I put on and I carry a handbag that would exceed airline luggage limits. Unfortunately I am not the only one experiencing back pain at a young age as it is becoming more common due to our inactive lifestyles. So what can we do to change this and prevent back pain?

I put the question to Jason Smith, Physiotherapist, Founder of Back In Motion Health Group and author of ‘Get Yourself Back In Motion’. Jason has compiled these 5 important things you need to know about preventing back pain.  Continue Reading

Easy Exercises Header

It is no secret that I am unfit. I know it, you know it, doctors annoy me about it …. but I do want to change. I know that the older we get the more worn our bodies become, and exercise is truly the only way to combat it. The problem I have, like many unfit people, is that I don’t really know where to start and I can make an excuse for nearly every suggestion someone makes. With this in mind I have decided that the home is probably the most comfortable place for me to begin my fitness makeover so I asked personal trainer, Blake Worrall-Thompson, to give me 5 exercises we can do in our own homes that we can start right now. No equipment required, just yourself and a little workout. No excuses!  Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
