Health tips for your period

There is nothing that affects our appearance and wellbeing as much as our hormones do, specifically at a certain time of the month. Periods and the female reproductive system are a topic we tend to avoid unless we are trying to get pregnant, and other than that occasion we probably haven’t even discussed it with anyone since our high school sexual education class. I want that to change today because I know from personal experience how much it can mess with how I feel on the inside and how I look on the outside.

I’m going back to basics with the help of Naturopath, Kinesiologist & Nutritionist, Cassie Mendoza-Jones, to give you five things you need to know before your next cycle, including how to stay healthy, keeping pain at bay and her secret remedies/ products she trusts.  Continue Reading

How to prevent wrinkles

When I think of aging my first thought is of wrinkles. I believe I’ve taken care of my skin the best I can to prevent wrinkles as long as possible but the beauty industry is always changing, new innovations and discoveries are made everyday so perhaps I’m not as on top of it as I could be.

Before I get my first wrinkle, I want to know what I could be doing to prolong my youthful skin. I’m approaching 30 and this is the age majority of women will develop their first fine lines or wrinkles. If you are in the same situation I think these tips from anti-aging expert, Sia Hendry, will help us.  Continue Reading

Pilates Stretching Exercises

I take my body for granted. I know I have a relatively functioning, young, capable body but in the 28 years I’ve been inhabiting it I’ve done very little to look after it, in the grand scheme of things. I take spa days and I get manicures/pedicures but I neglect the things that will ensure it runs smoothly in the future – READ: muscles. That was until recently when I recommenced physiotherapy and pilates. It’s made a world of difference to my wellbeing but it’s been one key realisation that has changed my way of thinking. We need to stretch ourselves.

I am talking about stretching both physically and mentally but for today we will concentrate on the physical. Our muscles are kind of like rubber bands – if we stretch them regularly they stay in shape and continue to work, but if we leave them unused they dry up and will likely break when we do go to use them. Just like with those rubber bands, a little regular stretching can give us an extended period of use.

Now that I have you thinking about all the rubber bands you have that may be starting to dry-up, let’s hear from an expert on the important topic of stretching. Pilates pro, Peta Serras, has a list of 5 things we all need to know.  Continue Reading

5 Things You Need To Know About Tattoo Removal

Did you know that I don’t have a single piercing or tattoo? People are always surprised when I tell them I don’t even have my ears pierced, and my friends never remember so I’ve received earrings as birthday gifts more often than I can count. For me, piercings are off limits purely because of my fear of pain. Tattoos on the other hand, while I definitely fear the pain of getting one I also fear that I wouldn’t like what I get after a few years (or decades). I think Tattoos on young skin look amazing, but what happens as I get older, saggier, wrinklier? I don’t feel comfortable getting a tattoo until I think tattoo removal is a viable option, so I thought I should actually look into it.

I have lots of friends with amazing tattoos, some of them got them as teenagers and despite the 20 years that have passed they still look amazing. However, I feel that knowing my luck I would get something that would age terribly. Would tattoo removal be an option for me? Is the technology advanced enough to really remove every last trace? I asked Dr. Mary Dingley, a leading specialist in cosmetic injectables and laser technology, to tell me what I need to know about tattoo removal.  Continue Reading

Barre Body Exercise Training

Barre. It’s the hottest word in fitness right now. More than a passing trend, this will be an exercise that grows to mass popularity just as we have seen with Yoga and Pilates. But what exactly is Barre? When I try to ask my Barre-loving friends what it is they generally give me the same response, “it’s like ballet exercise”. That doesn’t really tell me much so I decided to ask Australia’s reigning Barre expert and founder of Barre Body studios, Emma Seibold, to give us a bit more insight.

These are the 5 things we all need to know about Barre fitness training.  Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
