London UK Space NK Beauty Store

I’ve found my way to London as the first stop in what will be a two month long journey. I’ve never really had a desire to see the UK or Europe but as I quickly approach my 30’s I’ve been thinking about the things I said I would do by this age and have still not accomplished. My biggest goal was to retire rich but I’ve clearly failed that so I moved on to the second thing on my list …. a Euro trip.

In my rush to see the world I booked a return trip from Melbourne to London. I have two months to do what I want to do, the only issue is I didn’t actually plan what I wanted to do. It must sound like a wonderful dream to anyone who is reading this but for me, it’s a nightmare. My anxiety and depression have been on a crazy rollercoaster since I departed Melbourne on an 11:50pm Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong. Fast forward and now I’m sitting here in a gorgeous little apartment in Shoreditch, London trying to make a to-do list. I feel if I share with you exactly what I hope to see and do, perhaps it will drive me to tick them all off and not let my anxiety win this battle. Perhaps you can even tell me what I should do while I’m in this part of the world, I could use the help!  Continue Reading

Red Door Spa Union Square

I went to New York to bring you some beauty street style during the glitz of Fashion Week, but at the end of it all I thought I deserved a little time out. Whether you’re travelling for work, play or purpose it’s important to take some “me” time because even holidays can be stressful. It’s in these situations that I love to head to a spa and get a relaxing treatment. For this trip to New York I wanted to tick off a very important spa that has been on my bucket list for a few years, the Red Door Spa.

The Red Door Spa by Elizabeth Arden is the iconic gem in the empire. If you didn’t already know, Elizabeth Arden was a pioneer in the day spa industry having opened her first on Fifth Avenue in 1910. Now there is over 30 Red Door Spa locations in the USA but their newest is located at Union Square, New York. While it’s new and shiny, I had to go give it a good run through to see if it’s up to scratch.  Continue Reading

H&M Time Square Instagram Photo

I hadn’t been to New York since 2010 and having gone vegan in 2013 means that I was yet to venture to the big apple with my new lifestyle. I was keen to see which vegan delights I would uncover and thankfully NYC didn’t disappoint me. Unfortunately I was limited in time to discover everything on offer in New York but even with my time & location restrictions there were lots of delicious treats to enjoy. Here are some of my favourites. Continue Reading

Los Angeles Shopping Districts

It’s already been a couple of months since I returned from Los Angeles, USA and I’m greatly missing the sunny city. Aside from it being bitterly cold in Melbourne these past few weeks, it’s not just the weather that I love about LA. I’ve already shared with you my accommodation and dining experiences but I think I’ve saved the best for last …. shopping!

I’m going to share with you the shopping hot spots I always visit when I’m in the City of Angels.  Continue Reading

Grafton on Sunset Hotel

The first part of my recent trip to the USA was spent in Dallas, Texas for a conference, which was great but entirely work. I wanted to get away for some me time afterwards so I booked an extra week in Los Angeles for a little shopping and to visit some friends. My budget was limited but I wanted to stay in the fabulous neighbourhood of West Hollywood. I decided to try somewhere new on this trip so I booked in at Grafton Hotel on Sunset after a recommendation from some travel industry people.

I spent 6 nights, 7 days at Grafton on Sunset and I’m happy to now share with you my review.  Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
