Jewellery, Accessories, Bling. Doesn’t matter what you call it, I am no good with it. I don’t know how to wear it, so I don’t buy it. Problem solved.

No, of course the problem is not solved. I am trying to get stylish and the one thing I read over-and-over in magazines is that ‘accessories’ are what really makes an outfit. Seeing as though I barely have any accessories (remember, I don’t buy them because I don’t know how to wear them), I thought my recent trip to the US was a great time to try find some.

Forever 21 has to be one of my all-time favourite stores. You can get amazing on-trend pieces for pocket change, and they have a huge selection for every style that has ever been conceived. And they offer international shipping which is always a bonus. For clothes, I shop there often (and yes, there will be a separate haul post on that stuff) but the jewellery section was one I always avoided. Now was my time to embrace it and here is what I walked out with.

Necklaces

I usually opt for rather simple, almost unnoticeable necklaces. A love heart, a little cupcake …. cute things. This time I wanted to try something different.

Woven Leatherette & Chain Necklace

I don’t know how I feel about Black & Gold as a combo, but seeing as though I wear a lot of black clothing, I thought this necklace may be a good way to add a point of difference to my usually boring outfits. I like the mix of soft faux-leather and a stiff gold chain. Now I could be wrong here, but I think it can work well on it’s own or layered with other necklaces, or even as a bracelet.

Double Strand Bead Necklace

The mix of cream and peach beads attracted me as they are not very obvious or loud. I thought this one might also work for layering, or worn by itself, during daytime outings.

Aviator Necklace

This one borders on ‘cute’ but more down the line of ‘funky’ and ‘cool’. I personally don’t think real aviator sunglasses suit my face shape, so surely the next best thing is to wear them around my neck? The black chain is also a stand-out for me because I rarely see necklaces with a black chain.

Ice Cream Necklace

Ok, I couldn’t resist getting at least ONE cute necklace. This coloured plastic necklace features little coloured jewels as ‘sprinkles’, which is what drew me to it in the first place. I am a big fan of minor details. Don’t you think this is the perfect summer necklace?

Bracelets

Curved Metal Cuff

I love the look of cuffs on other people, but on me, well, I just don’t know. I have childlike, boney wrists and most ‘One Size’ bracelets/bangles/cuffs fall off me. When I tried this one on I was shocked to find it actually fit me, first go! That was the entire reason I bought it. Will I wear it? That is the question.

Rings

Owl Ring

I don’t know the official name for this one as I could’t find it on the Forever 21 website, but I do know it is an Owl. The brown jewels and rhinestones co-ordinate nicely with the dark silver band. It is a cute ring and not in your face, and clearly I love cute things.

Spring Flower Ring

This ring came in a few colour combos but being such a sucker for pink, I had to go with pink and gold. I don’t have any BIG rings and while this one isn’t massive, it sure looks big on my tiny fingers.

Burnished Gold Aztec Ring

Another one I don’t know what it is called, but I think it looks kind of Aztec. Doesn’t it? The Burnished gold band and trim adds an element of ‘old’ to the rather sparkly, bejewelled design. I really like the mix of dirty and pretty.

Filigree Knuckle Ring

I have REALLY wanted a super long ring that goes past the knuckles for about 3 months now. I don’t know why. I just think they look kind of cool. However, finding ones that fit my boney fingers was proving to be impossible. Luckily the US have a size range that covers every single shape. I like this particular one because of the see-through design and the subtle sparkle from the little rhinestones.

US $5.80 from Forever 21

I think that is a pretty fair haul and the individual prices were just outstanding. But how much did it all come to?
