Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a probable human carcinogen. The chemical is an effective preservative used in haircare products, cosmetics (particularly in nail products) and toiletries. Exposure to elevated levels (above 0.1 parts per million) can cause eye, nose, and throat irritation, coughing, nausea and severe allergic reactions. Asthmatic consumers are more sensitive to its effects. May be labelled as ‘formalin’ or be exempt from being listed as an ingredient.
