Liposomes

A microscopic spherical vesicle with a membrane consisting of a phospholipid bilayer and an aqueous core that transports drugs or genetic material into cells. In medicine they are used as delivery systems for vaccines, anti-cancer therapy and non-viral gene therapy. In cosmetics liposomes encapsulate active ingredients that are then deposited in the epidermis and dermis. Empty liposomes are also used in skincare where they increase skin humidity.
