Toluene

Toluene is used as a solvent in a variety of nail products, including polish, hardeners and polish removers, to promote smooth, even and lasting polish application. Toluene is considered a strong sensitising agent, a toxic inhalant and has a high risk of causing eye irritation. The highest concentrations of toluene usually occur in indoor air from the use of common household products (paints, adhesives, synthetic fragrances) and cigarette smoke. May appear on ingredient labels as benzene, methyl-methylbenzene, or toluol.
