*BLINK* Did you see that? I think it was August. It just flew right past my face! It has been a jam packed month for me with the Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo taking place, as well as a calendar full of beauty launches and media events. I have played my way through nearly 175 new products that launched in August, and that is excluding the fabulous new products I discovered at the expo. As always it was incredibly difficult to pick out the products that truly captured my attention. I have to say the month of August really did show off just how innovative the beauty market really is.
I hope you find something new to discover in this months best new beauty product launches.
I am a fan of any product that helps out people with thin and/or weak hair because it is something I suffer with a lot. The latest product from french brand Klorane is the Strengthening Serum Spray. Key ingredients quinine, caffeine and vitamin B5 work to effectively boost hair renewal, hydrate hair and help it appear fuller and thicker. It also smells divine and doesn’t leave your hair feeling greasy, something that is a common problem with most hair tonics.

The latest colour collection from OPI is all about San Francisco, inspired by the sights and creations that make the city so unique. Seafood, sourdough bread, the Golden Gate bridge … there are so many colours to select as a palette but I think OPI did a great job at curating 15 of the most important shades. There is also a little surprise to this colour collection with the inclusion of three brand new Liquid Sand nail lacquers, which are a must-buy if you are collecting the textured gems.
The full line-up includes A-Piers to Be Tan (chocolate caramel), Dining al Frisco (blue), Haven’t the Foggiest (misty grey), Peace & Love & OPI (eggplant and sage), Keeping Suze at Bay (navy blue), Incognito in Sausalito (blue black), Lost on Lombard (garnet), I Knead Sour-Dough (warm brown), Muir Muir on the Wall (plum), In the Cable Car-Pool Lane (rich burgundy), Embarca-Dare Ya! (magenta), First Date at the Golden Gate (ruby shimmer), It’s All San Andrea’s Fault (liquid sand earthy taupe), Wharf! Wharf! Whartf! (liquid sand matte blue), and Alcatraz…Rocks (liquid sand grey).

When you buy a budget-friendly nail polish you don’t want something that is cheap in quality as well as price. Designer Brands has always been pretty good at giving us quality cosmetics without the designer price tag, and this time they have done it with a brand new 18-piece collection, Neon Brights. Every colour of the rainbow is available, with the addition of a few shiny metallics to keep the shimmer fans happy. The polish is chip and fade proof, and toluene and formaldehyde-free.

I have to say I have known about the Mash Up collection for quite some time and it has pained me to keep it locked away until it was available. Six shades of eclectic, electric and eccentric attitude. The names for these lacquers are probably my favourite of the year so far – Choreographed Chaos (bubblegum pink chrome), Harmonious Mess (lavender crème) Mayhem Mentality (vibrant orange crème), Sparkling Garbage (saturated green with holographic glitter), Pretty Ugly (teal shimmer) and, Beautiful Disaster (magenta chrome).
Australia $18.95 each from pharmacies, nail salons and spas.

We may be moving into the warmer months in Australia, but those up top are about to feel the chill with Fall coming their way. One way to stay warm is with the adorable Fuzzy Coat collection from Sally Hansen. These nail lacquers create a unique 3D texture that resembles a fluffy jumper. The full collection includes Wool Lite, All Yarned Up, Peach Fuzz, Tight Knit, Fuzz-Sea, Wool Knot, Tweedy, as well as a lime coloured Fuzzy Fantasy but that one is unavailable in Australia.

You are never too old to have a Cinderella moment, and a Prince is not required. Inspired by his third year of sponsorship of The Australian Ballet, Napoleon is celebrating the Company’s lead production of Cinderella with a tribute to the 17th century fairy tale. The collection focuses on radiant, flawless skin with smouldering eyes. It is a look that is achievable on everyone.
The limited edition collection includes NEW Auto Pilot Radiance-Boosting Primer, NEW Color Disc in “Cinders”, Prismatic Eye Shadow Quad #11 and DeVine Goddess in ‘Aphrodite’.

I love it when eyeshadow palettes make things easy for me. As much as I adore makeup I will never claim I am a pro with it. I would call me an avid consumer who needs guidance just like the rest of the human population. That is why I am loving the new True Color Eyeshadow Quad’s by Avon. They each contain 4 eyeshadows that perfectly compliment each other and it doesn’t matter if you use 2, 3 or all of them. On the back of the palette there is a little illustration that tells you exactly where to place the eyeshadow to create their recommended look. Available in: Urban Skyline, Romantic Mauves, Mocha Latte, and Purple Haze.

It is surprising that with a range as big as La Mer have they still find new things to create. This month they launched The Treatment Lotion and it is good one in my opinion. Put simply, the intense hydrating lotion is formulated to renew and soften skin – and we are talking about serious hydration. It is made using a heap of sea minerals and other good stuff, and clinical testing showed there was a 75 per cent increase in skin’s immediate hydration. This will be a particularly good product for women who naturally have extremely dry skin, and for those suffering through skin-drying periods such as cancer treatment, menopause, etc.
Australia $130 from Creme de la Mer and selected David Jones stores.
USA $125 from Creme de la Mer (currently exclusive)
The Deep Clean range from Neutrogena is an institution with the facial cleanser being an essential to many oily skin sufferers. Now they have expanded the line to include some fun new cleansers – the Radiance Boosting Mulberry, and the Revitalising Pink Grapefruit. Each of the new flavours come in a foaming cleanser and a daily scrub so you can mix it up depending on how you like to clean your skin. The Pink and Purple packaging is an obvious draw card for me and the fresh scents are a sweet treat for my senses. If you have a sweet tooth, or just like sweet scents, you will love these.

Do you use body lotion? Be honest, swear on your loved-ones life. If the answer was “when I remember” or worse than the new In-Shower Body Moisturiser from Nivea is just what you need. Think of everything you hate about body lotion … well, this product doesn’t have it. It is essentially just like hair conditioner except it is for your skin. You apply it just like conditioner – in the shower on wet skin, and you rinse it off. Your body is completely moisturised and you don’t have to walk around in the buff waiting for it to air dry before getting dressed. Life saver!
It is available in two formulations, one for dry skin and one for normal skin.
Australia $7.99 each from supermarkets, Priceline, Myer, Target, Kmart, Big W and selected pharmacies.
Now that it is warming up I have to start thinking about my beautiful white skin. Sunscreen is always essential but as I get older my skin is showing some signs of ageing (hello, dimples!). This is why I have completely opened myself up to fake tanning and the new Wash Off tan from Le Tan is where I am starting. The tanning formula dries in sixty seconds and is easily applied to the skin via the aerosol nozzle. You can see the colour as you apply it and there is no “curing” time so what you see is what you get. The best part is that it lasts until you wash it off (it washes off with soap and warm water) and is rain-proof and transfer resistant. Available in Bronze and Deep Bronze.
Australia $14.99 from leading grocery stores, Priceline, Kmart and pharmacies
It is possibly the biggest fragrance launch of the year in terms of popularity, and if you haven’t heard about the new Honey fragrance by Marc Jacobs I can only assume you were stranded in space (welcome home!). This sweet scented Eau de Parfum combines the best parts of fresh floral and fruit notes. Top notes of pear, fruit punch and mandarin, middle notes of orange blossom, peach nectar and honeysuckle, and base notes of honey, golden vanilla and woods – can a fragrance sound any better than that?
Australia $120 from Myer and David Jones.
UK £50 from Harrods
