New Release Beauty Favourites June 2013

Happy end of June and let us give thanks to the end of another financial year. Why, you ask. Because if you are lucky you will have a tax return in your not too distant future and that means you can spend it one some hot new goodies for yourself, perhaps some of the hot new goodies I am featuring in this post. June was MASSIVE in the beauty sector and I was kept busy with 79 new launches for the month. That is more products than some online stores even stock!

Picking my favourites was as difficult as ever but I think I have come up with a curated list of life-changers. Take a look and tell me what you fancy.

Hair

Rusk

Is curling your hair an exhausting task? Do you find tongs and stylers too complicated to create captivating curls? The new MiraCurl by Rusk is set to revolutionize at-home curl creation. The device looks weird, but what it does is magical. The patented technology is one of a kind, allowing you to simply clamp a section of hair which is then automatically drawn into a heated ceramic curl chamber. It is something you have to see to believe so watch this video to see it in action. You can create everything from soft to strong curls by using the variable temperature settings, and you can even set the curl direction. It honestly reminds me of something that would have been in The Jetsons.

John Frieda

Full Repair is one of John Frieda’s leading haircare ranges, and this month they grew it a little with their new baby, Full Repair Hydrate + Rescue Deep Conditioner. The rich cream is nourishing for very dry and damaged hair. It isn’t greasy but I would still recommend this heavy duty hydrator is best for those with thick hair.

Australia $16.99 from Priceline, Woolworths, Coles, Target, Chemist Warehouse and selected pharmacies.

USA $9.99 from Drugstore.com, Walgreens and ULTA

UK £6.99 from Boots

Garnier

Looking for more damaged hair help? Garnier Fructis have released a whole new collection just for you, Goodbye Damage. The range consists of Fortifying Shampoo, Fortifying Conditioner and Split End Serum. Garnier love to make big claims with their hair products and this range is no different, with a promise that using these three products can repair 1 year worth of damage in just 3 washes. Personally, I just love the little bottle of Split End Serum which acts as a bandage for those frizzy ends.

Nails

Natio

One of my favourite Australian brands, Natio, have just expanded their fabulous nail polish collection to include three hot new shades – Rapture (dark mushroom), Wonder (vivid fuchsia) and Lovely (bright coral). Of course the colours matter but I love Natio’s lacquers because they are cruelty-free and apply like a dream. If that wasn’t enough for Natio this month they have also released three metallic hues as well – Aura (shimmery gold), Sugar Plum (sparkling topaz) and Stardust (silvery greige).

Australia $9.95 from Natio, Myer, David Jones and selected pharmacies.

Makeup

Bourjois

Healthy Mix foundation has become a cult makeup must have so it is hard to imagine that Bourjois would even try to create another, but they have and I think they have done a wonderful job. The new Healthy Mix Radiance Reveal foundation uses fruit therapy to leave skin hydrated, glowing and with a flawless finish. Available in the same shade range and for the same price, the only decision you really have to make is whether you like the semi-matte finish of the original or this new luminous finish.

Max Factor

Hate clumpy mascara? Don’t we all! The new Max Factor Clump Defy Volumising Mascara still gives your lashes the thickness and oomph you crave but without the clingy bulk of clumping. The technology lies in the brush which has evenly spaced, tightly formed bristles that stop clumps before they form and hug the lashes to define and separate. Perhaps I just like the sound of my lashes getting a big old hug.

Australia $24.95 from Myer, Target, Kmart, Big W, Priceline and selected pharmacies.

Clinique

CC Cream will be popping up everywhere over the coming months but this month we welcome the Clinique version. Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream SPF30 Hydrating Colour Corrector harnesses the power of Clinique’s award winning Moisture Surge formulas to bring you a smooth cream that will rid your skin of redness, hydrate it like a sponge and give you an even complexion. My favourite part is the SPF 30 broad spectrum protection, which protects you from the harsh sun, while other key ingredients like Vitamin E protect you from other environmental factors. It is an ultimate hybrid of skincare and makeup.

Australia $45 from Clinique, David Jones, Myer, Terry White and selected pharmacies.

USA $35 from Clinique, Sephora, Saks Fifth Ave, Neiman Marcus, NordstromLord & Taylor and Bergdorf Goodman

Skincare

People for Plants

Jamie Durie is an Australian icon known for his love of gardening and his passion for greenery. I was a little shocked to hear that Jamie had entered the beauty market but when we were introduced to People For Plants cofounders and longtime friends of Jamie, Anna Addicoat and Andrew Brown, we heard a story all too familiar. While pregnant, Anna suffered from skin irritations and that led her husband Andrew to search for something to help his struggling wife. From this People for Plants was born. The CCF-certified cruelty-free products are also ACO-certified organic. The astounding part is really what the products DON’T have that make them a winner – NO parabens, sulphates, synthetic fragrances, artificial colours, petrochemicals, silicones or GMO’s. They really are basically crushed up organic plants and that is a welcome change in this day and age of chemicals.

The range currently consists of 16 skincare products and 5 bodycare products, with a little birdy telling me there will be more to come in the not too distant future.

Australia – Available from Priceline, David Jones, Terry White, selected pharmacy and health food stores.

Dr. LeWinn’s

Looking for a new cleanser? Dr. LeWinn’s have four new ones for you and there is no doubt you will find one that you love. There is the new Foaming Cleanser, Gentle Cream Cleanser, Sensitive Cleansing Milk and my favourite, the 4-Fusion Cleansing Oil. The 4-Fusion Cleansing Oil melts away all traces of make-up and impurities leaving skin supple and soft, which is one of the key benefits of a good cleansing oil but unlike others this one is insanely affordable. All their new cleansers have been dropped in price, ranging from $29.95 to $34.95, plus increased in size to 200ml.

Dermalogica

Whether you are officially classified as having sensitive skin or not, the delicate eye area is a sensitive space for everyone. That is why it is great to hear that Dermalogica have expanded their UltraCalming range to include a great new eye serum. I am already a fan of the UltraCalming range so I kind of already knew that the Ultrasmoothing Eye Serum would be a winner. Just a drop for each eye will help fight fine lines and give you all the anti-aging benefits you need, as well as prevent sensitivity.

The Body Shop

You can’t deny that The Body Shop have a knack for creating deliciously scented goods, but this month I think they have hit the ball out of the park. Introducing the limited edition Brazil Nut collection. Oh. My. God – that is all I can say about the scent. I literally had to hold myself back from licking the body butter because I just couldn’t believe something could smell so sweet and not be edible. The collection contains 7 heavenly products for your body – Beautifying Oil, Body Butter, Body Mist, Body Scrub, Eau de Toilette, Shower Cream and Soap. And yes, I do recommend you use them all at once but remember, LIMITED EDITION!

Fragrance

Calvin Klein

There is a hot new flavour in town and it comes in the form of ck one’s hottest new edition, Summer, for 2013. The limited edition EDT had me instantly thinking of The OC, palm trees and splashing around in clear blue water with a Pine Lime Coconut cocktail waiting for me back on the sun deck. That image is definitely courtesy of the refreshing unisex scent that captures all of those essences perfectly. A tonic woody fragrance—bright top notes of zesty citrus and splashing waterfall give an immediate freshness. Watermelon and crushed leaves are cooling and transition into the watery, green aromas of cucumber and water lily as the middle notes. As the scent dries down, caraway seeds add a hint of aromatic sensuality, while clean woody notes of musk and moss have a sexy, skin-like warmth. If you aren’t in a summer climate right now grab a bottle and stash it away for when the temperature rises.

Roberto Cavalli

I have been wearing the Roberto Cavalli signature fragrance non-stop and frankly I wasn’t sure anything would knock it off top spot for “sexy, cool” fragrances, but if anything can it is going to be the newly launched follow up, Just Cavalli. The fragrance features a top note of neroli, middle note of Tahitian tiare flower and base note of creamy palissander wood. The bottle is made of pink glass and golden metal, complemented by a pink python-skin collar. Fresh, intense and alluring, Just Cavalli is described as the scent of youth and seduction. Honestly, I would have just bought it for the pink glass alone.

Australia $60 from Myer, David Jones, The Perfume Connection and selected pharmacies.
