New Release Beauty Favourites May 2013

We are almost through May and it was another big one this month. The Plastic Diaries celebrated its 3rd birthday and we got a beautiful new facelift (with more enhancements to come!). We also saw a staggering 86 products go on sale including whole makeup collections, haircare lines and some sneaky nail innovations that was kept a well-guarded secret. So which were my faves? It was tough but I have narrowed them down.

Hair

KMS California

The latest addition to the HAIRPLAY range is the Messing Creme, ideal for creating relaxed undone styles. The quick-drying non-oily wax adds texture with medium hold and a semi-matte finish. If you like your hair to look a little worn-in like the second day of a blowdry this is the product you need.

USA $14.99 from Sleek Hair

Pantene

When you think of styling products you probably don’t think of Pantene, but that could all change with their new styling ranges. Fusing hair treatments with hair styling is the main aim of their new line, and I think many of you will love what is on offer. The range I am fancy for this month is the Soft Curls collection, which includes the Styling Treatment Foam, Styling Treatment Mist and Styling Treatment Creamy Fiber. The products can be used to create soft, fluid curls that look healthy and not overdone. The mist is currently my favourite because it doesn’t weigh down my fine hair. There is also a Smooth Straight collection with similar products but designed to create super smooth, straight hair without the frizz.

Australia $9.99 each from supermarkets and pharmacies

Nails

CND

If you thought Shellac was amazing than you will be downright stunned by the next innovation from CND, Vinylux. Think of everything you love about Shellac, then take away the frustrating removal process and voila, there you have Vinylux Weekly Polish. To sum it up briefly, you apply it like a regular polish, you let it air dry like a regular polish (but it only takes 8 minutes) and you remove it just like regular nail polish …. BUT it lasts up to 7 days, has a gel-like shine and is super strong like Shellac. This is going to be the next big thing in nails. I bet my piggy bank on it. Available as a salon service or you can purchase the bottles direct but make sure you grab the matching Weekly Top Coat otherwise you just won’t get the same results.

Australia $19.95 each from CND authorized salons and CND Australia

USA $9.90 each from CND authorized salons

UK – Price unknown – Available from CND authorized salons and Sweet Squared

OPI

The OO7 tribute keeps on coming from OPI this month with the release of the long-awaited Bond Girls collection. Five well-known Bond Girls have been honored in the form of their very own nail lacquer, all of which come in the new Liquid Sand texture. The Liquid Sand sparkly glitters are toned down with a matte finish, making them an understated knockout no matter which colour you where. The Bond Girls collection features Pussy Galore (pink), Honey Rider (gold), Jinx (tangerine orange), Tiffany Case (electric blue), Vesper (eggplant), Solitaire (white/silver).

Australia $19.95 from beauty salons, David Jones and Adore Beauty

UK £11.50 from Lena White

Dior

The Bird of Paradise Collection is a fitting colour tribute to the tropics and exotic locations one hopes to visit during summer. While it may be winter in Australia, the Summer 2013 collection easily transcends climates and offers a palette to delight all your  senses. It starts with the Nude Tan BB and Nude Tan Paradise Duo for a bronzed complexion, then on to the 5 Coleurs eyeshadow palette in a choice of two edgy colour spectrums, for the lips you have the swoon worthy Jelly Lip Pen and to finish you have to grab a Lacquer Duo, available in two sets each containing two vibrant mini vernis.

Street Edition – the limited edition colour capsule collection that has me jumping with giddiness. I am not exactly what you would call “street”. I don’t understand the appeal of tagging and graffiti but when I saw the packaging of this collection I found myself in a new frame of mind. The ck one packaging is used as a canvas which features designs by celebrated new york city graffiti artist, miss 163, known for her colorful art that reflect her views on modern youth culture and social justice. The makeup line reflects it perfectly with bright pops of colour available in the eyeshadow quad, lipsticks and real nail polish strips. But this is a limited edition collection and it will only be available for a limited time!

Skincare

Avon

Anew Clinical has a brand new baby and it is the Pro Line Corrector with A-F33. Common name, right? All jokes aside, this stuff is what I would describe as an atom bomb for wrinkles. This isn’t just for faint-hearted fine lines, this is for the serious wrinkles. The ones that keep you awake at night (or is that just me?!?!). Unlike AHA, unlike retinol, unlike injectable collagen, the patented A-F33 (Amino-Fill 33) works to deactivate collagen blocking and help effectively boost collagen production in just 3 days. When tested, 100 per cent of women showed a reduction of fine lines in two weeks. WOW

Australia $65 from Avon representatives, phone 1800 646 000.
