Baby Orangutan for World Orangutan Day

Today is World Orangutan Day and I’m taking this opportunity to deliver something so many of you have been asking for. Palm Oil is a widely used ingredient in the food and cosmetic industries but increased awareness about this ingredient has led to many people (myself included) avoiding the purchase of any product containing it. I will compile a more thorough investigative piece about Palm Oil just as I did about animal testing but I suspect that today you will be more educated through countless other avenues about Palm Oil.

I’m making today all about The List.

Take the time to quickly read what’s wrong with palm oil and why you shouldn’t be using it, and then head to our Palm Oil-free Beauty page where you will find a list of cosmetic brands and products that are completely free from palm oil and/or palm oil derivatives. This list will be updated constantly so bookmark it as a handy resource to assist you when you shop.

Orangutans captured and tortured in Borneo

Trembling with fear and tethered to the floor of a squalid cage, tiny orangutan Peni clings to her mum’s tortured body.
This picture captures the last tragic minutes of the adult ape’s life – after a frenzied mob beat her, pelted her with rocks then tried to drown her in a swimming pool.
Her crime? She was caught scavenging for fruit to feed her malnourished daughter on the outskirts of a ramshackle village in Borneo, December 2010 (source: Occupy for Animals)
