Palmer's Moisturizing Body Wash

Over the years I’ve gone on-and-off the cult classic Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula body lotion. Sometimes I find the scent delightful and other times it’s too overwhelming for me. In winter I tend to like it because it’s that rich, creamy fragrance you want to envelope your senses and warm you up, but applying body lotion during winter is a nightmare. I admit I don’t usually use a typical body lotion during cold weather, I prefer to use an in-shower moisturiser or I slap on some body oil. That’s why the new Cocoa Butter Formula Body Wash sounded appealing to me.

Palmer’s released a range of body washes late in 2013. The Moisturizing Body Wash is most similar to their hero body lotion so it’s designed for fans looking to get that famous scent into their day a little more. Would it work for me?

My Review

  • The 400ml bottle has a tall, curved body made from a sturdy but easy-to-squeeze plastic. The top of the bottle has an orange flip-open lid that reveals a large hole. Both the base and the top are flat so if you wish to invert the bottle when it’s getting to the end you can stand it up without having to balance it.
  • When you open the bottle you can almost instantly smell that cocoa butter scent Palmer’s are famous for. It’s about the same strength as the body lotion. The scent remains strong while using the body wash but once you rinse it off the fragrance is much less noticeable. I would say even half the strength as the body lotion. It also doesn’t wear as long once you are dry so it’s really designed to be layered with the body lotion if you are hoping to keep that scent around a little longer.
  • It has a creamy consistency and doesn’t lather much, even when used with a fluffy body sponge. It feels really nice on my dry skin and even after rinsing off I can feel my skin is a little softer. Once dry I find my skin is more hydrated than it usually is after a shower.
  • Even though the moisturisation is noticeable, I wouldn’t go so far as to recommend that this replaces the need to moisturise at all. In warmer temperatures I could probably get away with just using this but during winter an added body lotion is essential for keeping my skin hydrated.
