Now that I so close to taking my vacation I am embedding myself in full holiday beauty prep mode. One thing I always forget about before and during a holiday is my hair. I want it to look good and stay healthy no matter what it goes through. Air travel, sun, sand and pools … how do I keep it in top shape without it eating into my holiday fun?

I asked Alan Buki, Co-Founder of Original & Mineral, Owner of Original A and Co-Founder of O&M.nyc to tell me what I need to do.  Continue Reading

Pantene Beautiful Lengths Hair Donation 12

I can feel summer is so close that I can almost touch it. It is exciting but we have had a particularly warm Spring so far and I feel like we are in for some extreme heat over the next few months. It is at this time of year I get an itch to cut off all my locks. A dramatic change that will be less work during the hot, sweaty days. Perhaps it was just my recent experience with a fabulous short style that has me itching. However, I have learnt my lesson from years gone past that there are some things to consider before getting a massive style change.

If you are in the same boat as me, and thinking about a style change, you may want to get some expert advice. I chatted with Alan Buki, Co-Founder of Original & Mineral, Owner of Original A and Co-Founder of O&M.nyc to get the tips we need to know.  Continue Reading

Original Mineral nyc Salon Front Doors

Finding a hairdresser to entrust with your hair can be stressful and scary. Well, it is for me. I have never had “my own” hairdresser. I have always jumped between places and I didn’t even have a method to choosing where I would go. I would end up going somewhere that is nearby to home or work, or I would pick a place based on how it looked, or I would just go somewhere that stocked products I liked. I could count on one hand the number of hairdressers I have actually returned to more than once, and that frustrates me some what. As I get older I want to find someone that knows my hair and that I can just sit down and trust they will do what looks best.

My recent hair makeover at Original A Salon has me thinking that this could potentially be that place. However, I am a commitment phobe so I thought I would ask Alan Buki, owner of Original A Salon, what I should be looking for when choosing a hairdresser. I hope his expert tips help you too.  Continue Reading

Underlights Before After Hairstyle

The last time I had anything done to my hair was when I chopped it all off for Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths 2012. I had the honour of the fabulous Barney Martin doing the cut, but with such a huge amount being chopped off I wasn’t in the mood for anything else at the time. Cut to me 12 months later and I was practically bursting for a new hair-do. I felt bored and tired of my natural hair colour, and the cut Barney did had well grown out (and no, I didn’t have a trim since, eeep!).

When I heard that the fabulous Original & Mineral founders had just revamped their salon I thought it would be the perfect time to take a visit. I was first introduced to the O&M products at Cosmoprof in 2011 and had used them at home since, but I had never seen them in a salon environment. Seeing as though the products were actually created for salon use I thought it was time to see how they performed under pressure …. and hey, I needed a new hairdo after all. I was happy to see anyone from the salon but I was extremely lucky to find the head honchos had some time to do my hair.

Colour

Up first was the colouring and I was delighted that Wayne Lewis, Colour Director at Original A salon and Technical Director for Original & Mineral, would give me the hottest colour trick of the moment – Underlights!. What the hell is that? Don’t worry, that was my response too. Let me explain …  Continue Reading

VS Sassoon Big Hair Styler Before Front

Everyone thinks their own hair is the worst, but in my opinion you don’t know suffering until you have thin, fine hair. My wispy hair sticks to my head, makes me look bald if I tie it back too tight and gets oily within 24 hours of washing it. On the plus side, it does dry quickly and heat styling only takes a few minutes … but with that comes some concerning bad points. Fine hair is fragile and gets damaged quite easily. To all the fine haired girls out there, I know your pain.

If you have fine hair it is important to keep it in good shape. I spoke with Alan Buki, Co-Founder of Original & Mineral, Owner of Original A and Co-Founder of O&M.nyc to get the facts about managing fine hair.

  1. It is important to still condition hair even though it is fine because conditioner can add nourishment without adding weight. Try O&M’s Fine Intellect which conditions the hair but is weightless as it uses camomile.
  2. If hair has flyaways make sure that you use a natural bristle brush not synthetic as this can sometimes cause static.  Continue Reading
