Beauty Gift Guide for Beginners

When I was a teenager I was very curious about makeup and beauty products, and I was extremely lucky that I had a mother who never stopped me from exploring that interest. My mother wasn’t a major consumer of beauty products but she owned makeup and I had seen her use it, and she went to the beautician every now and then but to me it was like a foreign world that I longed to explore. My mother would let me buy little makeup kits or palettes every now and then, or she would buy me them as a treat, and thinking of this memory it hit me that they were some of the best gifts I had ever received.

I’ve posted a number of Beauty gift guides over the past few weeks but this one I’m dedicating to the girls and women who are just toeing with their interest in beauty. Whether it be you or someone you know, someone aged 8 or 48 … there comes a time for most women when that interest is sparked, and when nurtured and allowed to run free it can grow to become something wonderful. As I’ve always believed, beauty products aren’t a selfish commodity, they are a tool of creativity, of art and of self-expression. Continue Reading

Beauty Blogger Beauty Storage Essentials

There are only two types of people I will ever consider taking storage advice from – 1. the professional de-clutter experts on those hoarders TV shows, and 2. beauty bloggers. I’m yet to meet a beauty blogger who keeps their belongings and space to a minimum, but they’re some of the most organised and well-maintained individuals you can come across. When I found out I would be moving into a new house my first thought was, “NEW BEAUTY STORAGE!” (you’ll understand why after you see this).

I asked my fellow beauty bloggers from the Beauty Blog Coalition to tell me which beauty storage product do they rely on most.

Top 50 Beauty

When you hear “Top 50 Most Influential People in Beauty” few would think a beauty blogger would fall into that selection. You would probably think of celebrities, fashion designers, makeup artists, beauty retailers and frankly anyone other than a blogger. However, for one very well deserving blogger, it’s undeniable that her influence is far greater than many of those you may initially consider and it has been cemented by the fact she has been included on a list created by one of the world’s leading authorities on the matter.

WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) is the industry insider in all things fashion and beauty. A few days ago WWD Beauty Inc announced first annual list of the power players who are shaping the beauty business today. You will see in the list below that there are a few surprises (including one of our favourite Australian retailers) but one that is no surprise to me or anyone that reads her blog is that of Christine Mielke of TemptaliaContinue Reading

Amazon Luxury Beauty Store Page

If luxury beauty is the only thing you dare buy than this news will be great for you. And while we are at it, it will also make those luxury lusters out there very happy. This month Amazon launched their new Luxury Beauty Store, for the first time retailing some of the best luxury brands. Amazon is the world’s largest online retailer but the messy and perceived “discounted” layout of the site has put luxury brands from joining in the action previously. Amazon does have luxury shoppers who come for things like fashion and gadgets, so why not beauty?

“We have luxury shoppers,” said Chance Wales, director of beauty and health & personal care for the e-commerce giant. “What we have been lacking is luxury brands, and we hope this is the first step to marry our customer’s needs with what brands expect in terms of displaying and selling their luxury [products].”

The good news is that Amazon has catered to the needs of the luxury brands. You won’t find a circus of mismatched products in the Luxury Beauty Store.

“This site is much more premium,” said Stephane Colleu, president and chief executive officer of Dr. Brandt Skincare. “A mass brand is not going to be sold within this platform, which is why it’s very attractive.”

While you may think Amazon has always offered premium brands, this is not the case as they are often listed by third-parties in the Amazon Marketplace. The difference with this site is that it is managed by Amazon, all the products are shot in-house and this is a true partnership between the brand and Amazon. It has been indicated that as part of this partnership, Amazon has also shown itself willing to exert more control over where the brands in the Luxury Beauty Store will be available on the site (read: Marketplace). “We are working with brands to make sure we’re presenting their products in an optimal environment,” said Wales.  Continue Reading

Bioderma Atoderm Ultra Rich Foaming Gel

If you have heard of Bioderma it is probably because of their incredible Crealine H2O Solution makeup remover, but the French skincare brand actually has a few skincare winners in their stable. One such range is Atoderm, a line of skincare products for sensitive, irritated skin. It is a saviour for those suffering with atopic skin but also those who occasionally have flare-ups or allergies.

This review is for the Ultra-Rich Foaming Gel, an extra gentle cleanser for the face and body which is said to restore natural lipids to keep the skin balanced and healthy.  Continue Reading
