NYFW Beauty Products

You saw what I took in my beauty bag to New York Fashion Week but what about my makeup bag? Picking which makeup I take away with me is definitely the hardest task I have to face when travelling. It would be like choosing which one of your kids gets to travel with you, except the criteria I look at for my choices comes down to versatility, reliability and proven success at making me look good. Rarely will I take a makeup product that I’ve never used before because I don’t have the room to take more than one of each item …. except for lipstick of course. And eyeshadows. And lashes.

As I did with my beauty bag, I try to take miniature and deluxe sized samples where possible and palettes for items where I need a choice of a few colours, excluding lipsticks because I usually need to carry the lipstick around with me all day for touch-ups.

Without further ado, here’s the makeup that landed in my suitcase.  Continue Reading

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box August

I recently published a review of my first Vegan Cuts beauty box, which is a beauty box subscription service that helps people to discover vegan and cruelty-free beauty. The great thing about this box is that it helps you to discover beauty products you would never have known exist otherwise. If you like indie beauty brands, bespoke and boutique beauty, this is the box for you.

See my unboxing video and read my review of each product.  Continue Reading

Cruelty-free Vegan Makeup

During a community chat within a vegan group I was asked about which foundations are best. One of the harder parts about going vegan is replacing your favourite beauty with cruelty-free options, but you would be surprised to know that many of the great cosmetics in the market are actually cruelty-free or vegan already. With the increased public demand for compassionate products we’re seeing more brands changing their ways without compromising the quality or performance of their products. It’s a win win win – for us, the animals and the environment.

Take a look at my top picks and see if your favourite makes the cut, or perhaps find a replacement for your animal-tested products. Continue Reading

Spring Clean Makeup Bag

Spring is almost over for me but I still thought I should do a little spring clean of my makeup bag before I hit summer. I like to pick out a bunch of new products to keep in my makeup bag for an entire season, and occasionally change out one or two products when I am trialling. I don’t like to trial all new products at the same time because if I have a bad reaction to something I won’t be able to narrow down the perpetrator.

The contents of this makeup bag is the makeup products I used mostly throughout Autumn. These are my day-to-day products which I like to keep neutral or trans-seasonal so when I am in a rush I can throw it on and know I won’t look out of place. All my other makeup is within easy reach so if I feeling like something different I can grab an eyeshadow or lipstick to change it up.  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Dermaquest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser

Face cleansers are seen as quite an underrated product in terms of our overall skincare needs, but they’re actually really important. The correct cleanser for your skin should remove dirt, debris and build-up that otherwise gets in the way of your other skincare products delivering their best results. A vast majority of skin issues can be activated simply by using the wrong cleanser. When it comes to anti-aging, it’s essential to not use a face cleanser that is drying or stripping. Hydration is key, and that’s one of the major claims behind the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser.

As I continue my fight against aging and dry skin I’ve tested the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser. Is it worth the price tag? Read on to find out.  Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
