Bioderma Atoderm Nourishing Cream

Dry skin needs a lot of extra TLC in my opinion. If you want smooth, healthy skin you have to fight to keep it hydrated, especially in summer. Internal and external sources of hydration are important to all skin types but extra dry skin can take a little more work to keep the thirst quenched. My dry skin is pretty tough and can get through most conditions relatively unharmed but in summer my legs can get so dry they reveal scales.

I need a body lotion that will hydrate my dry skin but is gentle enough on irritations as well as being highly effective to work fast and help my skin build a stronger barrier. Bioderma’s Atoderm range is specifically designed for dry and very dry skin. Having had success with the body wash, I wanted to try the lotion. Here are my findings.   Continue Reading

Best new beauty products of December 2014

December may be the busiest month of activity in almost every respect but when it comes to new beauty launches there is very little going on. The opening of Sephora Australia was definitely the biggest beauty launch on my calendar but in other news there have been very few new beauty products hitting shelves this month.

Nevertheless, there were still lots of goodies to make my monthly task difficult. I’ve culled through over 20 new launches to show you my top picks. Continue Reading

Beauty Gift Guide for Beginners

When I was a teenager I was very curious about makeup and beauty products, and I was extremely lucky that I had a mother who never stopped me from exploring that interest. My mother wasn’t a major consumer of beauty products but she owned makeup and I had seen her use it, and she went to the beautician every now and then but to me it was like a foreign world that I longed to explore. My mother would let me buy little makeup kits or palettes every now and then, or she would buy me them as a treat, and thinking of this memory it hit me that they were some of the best gifts I had ever received.

I’ve posted a number of Beauty gift guides over the past few weeks but this one I’m dedicating to the girls and women who are just toeing with their interest in beauty. Whether it be you or someone you know, someone aged 8 or 48 … there comes a time for most women when that interest is sparked, and when nurtured and allowed to run free it can grow to become something wonderful. As I’ve always believed, beauty products aren’t a selfish commodity, they are a tool of creativity, of art and of self-expression. Continue Reading

Natural Instinct Body Lotion review

A good body lotion is as important in fighting aging as a sunscreen. Ok, that’s kind of a lie, nothing is more important than sunscreen but dehydrated skin does rapidly speed up aging so body lotion is quite important. If you’re anything like me than you’re probably super picky about body lotion – the smell, the texture, the level of hydration – it’s nearly impossible to find the right balance. Then there’s the ingredients, of which I try to avoid nasties because it’s being applied to my largest organ (yep, skin is your largest organ!). I hoped Natural Instinct’s Body Lotion would be my answer ….. but is it? My review has the answers.  Continue Reading

Luxe vs Less - Body Conditioners

Using body lotion during Spring-Summer is a tricky time in my life. I don’t like the feeling of lotion on my body in warm weather, and I hate it in hot weather. The feeling of slime running from your skin as you sweat in a blistering, humid Australian summer is not a pleasant experience. My desire to avoid such situation means I will often go without moisturizing at all, even though I know my skin needs it. However, since I discovered in-shower body lotions I no longer have an excuse to avoid skin moisturizing. The only question is, do I need to spend a lot to get a good result?

Today I’m putting two of the biggest in-shower body lotions up against each other. I’m putting the luxe, best-selling Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner from Lush Cosmetics up against Nivea’s new Cocoa Indulging In-Shower Body Lotion. Which is worthy of your pennies? Read on to find out!

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Dermaquest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser

Face cleansers are seen as quite an underrated product in terms of our overall skincare needs, but they’re actually really important. The correct cleanser for your skin should remove dirt, debris and build-up that otherwise gets in the way of your other skincare products delivering their best results. A vast majority of skin issues can be activated simply by using the wrong cleanser. When it comes to anti-aging, it’s essential to not use a face cleanser that is drying or stripping. Hydration is key, and that’s one of the major claims behind the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser.

As I continue my fight against aging and dry skin I’ve tested the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser. Is it worth the price tag? Read on to find out.  Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
