Beauty shopping haul from New York via The Plastic Diaries

Shopping in the USA will never get old for me. I will never bore of it, even if every single brand they sell there comes to Australia. I can’t put it in to words exactly what I like about shopping there but I can show you the fruits of my labour. It was only in May I got to share with you my first 2014 beauty haul from the USA but shock horror I got even more during my New York trip for Fashion Week.

I recorded this video while in New York so my shopping adventures hadn’t been completed just yet, but I have got my full haul pictured and listed after the video. Will you spot something you already love or want to try?  Continue Reading

This month has been a little lacking in the review department thanks to all the craziness with Cosmoprof North America and other adventures in the US of A. But don’t think I forgot about you!

I briefly mentioned that I picked up this item in a recent haul post, but what I didn’t mention was that I got two. One for me, one for you! It was just too good to pass up. So what is it?

Benefit Cosmetics – Little Look Goods

This adorable kit contains three deluxe sized (VERY deluxe. Like huge!) samples of Benefit’s best sellers. Here is what you will score:

1x BADgal lash mascara in Black (4.0g)

1x Dandelion Brightening Face Powder (7.0g)

1x “that gal” Brightening Face Primer (7.5mL)

The Benefit Cosmetics Little Look Goods pack

I am already a huge fan of BADgal mascara and “that gal” primer, but I have never tried Dandelion before. If the other boxed powders from Benefit are anything to go by, I will love Dandelion just as much as I love Sugarbomb.

One lucky winner will score this adorable set of Benefit goodies!

I opened my one up to take a photo. I promise the winner gets a brand new, sealed one!

Way back in April this year, Australis made waves in the beauty industry with their red hot new releases for the Paparazzi Perfect High Definition range. I have previously told you about their amazing eyeshadow palettes and their tinted moisturiser, both of which were winners for me. Today they extend that award winning collection with 2 more products, a concealer and a brightener.

Both items come in a cute 10ml squeeze tube and I think that is a perfect size for both items because only a small amount is required and I hate it when you get a big tube of something only for half of it to dry out before you can use it. This size is far more waste-friendly. They also have a slightly floral, cosmetic smell. It isn’t unpleasant or overwhelming but I think it is worth noting for those who are sensitive to fragrances.

Now, on to the products. Concealers are something I judge very seriously. Even though my under eye dark circles have improved dramatically, it still only takes 1 day of not doing my skincare routine for them to turn into hellish darkness. Brighteners on the other hand am rather indifferent about because, really, I am yet to find a brightener that actually brightens my skin. In my case, most brighteners are just too yellow and my skin is too white for them.

Both these items from Australis can be worn together, so that is what I am going to show you today. In my reviews below, you will I preferred to use this separately but I think those with a regular, yellow based skin tone will be able to use these together to get the intended result. My pictures below are taken with clean skin, so there is no other makeup on at all! (Be kind).

NO make-up …. oh, the horrors!

Paparazzi Perfect High Definition Concealer

What Australis Say: Australis Paparazzi Perfect High Definition Concealer provides a soft finish that corrects colour on dark circles, red pigmentation as well as uneven skin tone. Vitamin E and calendula oil lock in moisture, soothe and provide an anti-inflammatory for the skin. High definition skin balancing pigments provide soft focus and light reflection effects for a flawless result. Medium coverage, long lasting formula. Available in Light-Medium and Medium-Dark.

What I Say: Firstly, I am testing out Light-Medium Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
