Beauty Gift Guide for Beginners

When I was a teenager I was very curious about makeup and beauty products, and I was extremely lucky that I had a mother who never stopped me from exploring that interest. My mother wasn’t a major consumer of beauty products but she owned makeup and I had seen her use it, and she went to the beautician every now and then but to me it was like a foreign world that I longed to explore. My mother would let me buy little makeup kits or palettes every now and then, or she would buy me them as a treat, and thinking of this memory it hit me that they were some of the best gifts I had ever received.

I’ve posted a number of Beauty gift guides over the past few weeks but this one I’m dedicating to the girls and women who are just toeing with their interest in beauty. Whether it be you or someone you know, someone aged 8 or 48 … there comes a time for most women when that interest is sparked, and when nurtured and allowed to run free it can grow to become something wonderful. As I’ve always believed, beauty products aren’t a selfish commodity, they are a tool of creativity, of art and of self-expression. Continue Reading

Best New Beauty Products

I don’t want to admit it but … September is over. I know, it’s a shock considering it’s actually almost October but can you believe it? I swear it was only February last month but now we are rolling into the month of Pumpkin Spice lattes and Halloween-themed everything. Now that we’ve said goodbye to September let me show you which products launched that captured my attention.

Nearly 60 new products landed on my desk for their September launch and it was overwhelming just how good the competition between them were. The biggest competition was in the lips category …. so many new, shiny, pretty lippies! Which ones won me over? Let’s find out! Continue Reading

Best new beauty product launches

Eeeek, is that really the date already? I know August is well and truly over but I can’t pass up sharing my favourites for the month. As for the delay in posting it, well, I blame New York Fashion Week. You’ll soon see why that took up so much of my time.

It was a somewhat slow month for new launches, with only 28 new products gracing my desk, but nearly all of them grabbed my attention and many of them will be fronting some big advertising campaigns over the coming months. I’m sure this won’t be the first nor last you see of them Continue Reading

Brooke Shields x MAC Cosmetics

I honestly think MAC Cosmetics are picking stranger and stranger people to collaborate with. The latest is Brooke Shields, which would have been fitting for the actress, author, and former model about 20 years ago but now? I’m just not so sure.

Back in the day Brooke was a gorgeous model and these days she is still a striking woman. I loved her in Suddenly Susan but she isn’t a person I would think of when it comes to remarkable style or gorgeous facial features. While her eyebrows have always been a bit of a topic amongst beauty watchers, no one can deny that her big, dark brows are now completely on-trend. So what does this mean for an entire cosmetic collection created in part by her? Let’s take a closer look. Continue Reading

Napoleon Perdis Slim Aarons Collection

You may not know the name but you most definitely would have seen Slim Aarons’ work. Mr Aarons was the man behind one of the most iconic images to represent the 1960-70’s era. ‘Poolside Gossip,’ which was shot at a Palm Springs home in 1970 designed by famous modernist architect Richard Neutra, is the inspiration behind the limited edition colour collection from Napoleon Perdis.

The collection is split into two segments. The first is a 3-piece set which I’ve managed to get my hands on two of the items to swatch for you. The second part is a trio of double-ended eyeliner pens, which again I’ve grabbed a couple of to show you.  Continue Reading
