Single's Day 2016 Australia

HAPPY SINGLE’S DAY!!! Wait, what is Single’s day, you may ask? According to Google “Singles’ Day or Guanggun Jie (Chinese: 光棍节; pinyin: Guānggùn Jié; Wade–Giles: Kuang-kun chieh; literally: “bare sticks holiday”) is an entertaining festival widespread among young Chinese people, to celebrate the fact that they are proud of being single”. It falls on November 11 each year and in true Australian fashion, we are adopting it in 2016.

Even if I weren’t single I’d be embracing this holiday because it’s a day that invites you to spoil yourself. Treat yourself like the special, loving person you are. Unlike silly old Valentine’s Day which heavily relies on other people validating you, Single’s Day celebrates that you don’t need any one person to make you feel worthy of love and care. Now that’s what I call a healthy holiday!

Last year you may have seen news that Chinese online retailer Alibaba broke records with billions of dollars made in just one day of trade. This year, why buy from unknown potentially dodgy traders when you can shop at your favourite trusted retailers? Join me in some self-care and treat yourself today to some goodies with these awesome offers from the best online beauty, fashion and lifestyle stores. Continue Reading

Ban Animal Testing

The news we have all been waiting for is here. Kind of. This week China’s Food and Drug Administration announced a step-towards removing animal testing as a mandatory requirement for cosmetics sold in their country. Cruelty-free beauty shoppers burst into song and dance at the news thinking their favourites will now be back on the Leaping Bunny and PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies list ….. but the celebrations are a little premature. The news isn’t clean cut and is actually rather confusing so I’m going to tell you what you may be missing from between the lines, and why you should run back to your favourite brands JUST YET.

First, let’s recap the announcement.  Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
