Sephora Best Buys

If there were just one minority of people who knew how to expertly shop for beauty products it would have to be beauty bloggers. I’m heading to the USA soon and it’s been a long time since I stepped foot in my beloved beauty store, Sephora. By now I thought Sephora would be shipping to Australia but as we know, that isn’t happening. To assist me in preparing a shopping list I called on my fellow beauty bloggers from the Beauty Blog Coalition to tell me which one product they deemed an essential Sephora purchase.  Continue Reading

Picking my favourites was as difficult as ever but I think I have come up with a curated list of life-changers. Take a look and tell me what you fancy. Continue Reading

Have you heard about Jojoba before? I have. In fact it was the first skincare ingredient I ever heard of. The Body Shop were the ones who introduced me to it way back when they first opened a shop in Bondi Junction. Their Jojoba moisturiser was the first skincare product I ever bought. I wasn’t even a teenager and the only reason I bought it was because it was tinted pink. This was way back when they had their original packaging (wish I had a photo of it to show you. Boy their packaging has changed!) and the brand was so new that everyone was addicted.

Back then I loved that little pot of cream. Was it smooth? Yes. Was it coloured pink? Yes. Did it smell nice? Oh YES YES YES. That was what I truly liked about it. Funny thing is, I never bought it again. I guess I moved on to trying other brands and other ingredients. Well, today I have come full circle and am back to giving the Jojoba plant another chance. This time with The Jojoba Company and their cleansing oil.

The strange thing that I have realised while trying out this product was that the Jojoba scent is very distinct. No doubt about it. As soon as I took one whiff of it the memories came rushing back. But this time, I didn’t it. Can ones nose change that much (well of course the outside can …. I did that back in ’08)? Continue Reading

First and most importantly, The Plastic Diaries turns the big 1 today. Yes, on 26 May 2010, we went live with the first proper blog post. I don’t count anything really before that time because it was more of an online personal rambling about my nose job, and I think only my mother read it. Anyway, today is The Plastic Diaries’ first birthday. WOOOOOO!

In all seriousness though, reaching the 1 year mark is a HUGE deal to me. I won’t go into it all now but I just want to say I will have a very special post on Monday (May 30) to celebrate, and it will involve the BIGGEST giveaway we have done. You will not want to miss it.

Now onto today’s post. It has been quite some time since I last updated you on competitions or giveaways that are happening around the web world, so I thought I would delay normal programming for a day and sneak in this little post. Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
