14 Beauty Tools to try in 2014

It’s a new year and time to set some new goals. Despite my obsession with looking and feeling my best, it’s my laziness that gets in the way of looking after myself as much as I should. I may own all the beauty products in the world but when it comes to using them I slack off after a couple of uses. This year I aim to take better care of my body and one way I’m contemplating doing that is by making use of some high-tech beauty inventions. 2014 will be the year I embrace the beauty tool.

Let’s take a look at 14 revolutionary beauty tools that could change your body (and your life) this year. Continue Reading

Remember how I went to Cosmoprof North America way back in August last year? Don’t worry if you don’t, I forget things too. In fact, I kind of forgot to finish unpacking my luggage until … oh let’s just say …. Christmas! Despite having already shared my hauls from Milani, CVS, Ulta, MAC Cosmetics, and Sephora Part 1 and Part 2, there are in fact a lot more products I haven’t shown you yet. Yes, yes, I am sick and I have issues. I know.

Today I am going to show you the mega nail polish haul. To be honest, I don’t know what I was thinking collection all this nail polish because even if I painted my nails everyday for the next 100 years, I will never get through it all. On the plus side, they are all just soooooooooo pretty.

Some of the polishes you will have seen before as I pulled those out in the early days, but the majority were buried deep in a bag. Here I go ….

One of the many lacquers I picked up in this haul

Zoya

Zoya create beautiful nail polishes all individually named with female names. I have always wanted to try their polishes but had never seen them in person until I went to Cosmoprof. Continue Reading

Ok peeps, I am back and ready to rumble!….. and by rumble, I mean share drool worthy images of my US hauls. Oh, you thought they were over? Tsk tsk tsk. You should know me better by now.

I have chosen today to reveal a new series in posts for TPD, Welcome To My Beauty Cupboard. The basic idea behind these posts is that I want to share with you when I discover a new brand. Often, this will happen when I am on a crazy hauling spree, but sometimes I just stumble across a brand I have never tried before. They may be huge and well known, or they may be niche and unheard of, either way, they are new to me and I am sure new to some of you too.

Today it is Milani Cosmetics, a brand I have heard about for years, wanted to own something for just as long … and finally got to see it in person at Cosmoprof North America!

What Is Milani Cosmetics?

The Milani team is constantly inspired by fashion and color. The Runway Eyes Fashion Shadows were developed with a fashion designers eye in mind with a sleek, innovative design and superior baked formulas; Milani creates couture color at off the rack prices. Women have looked to Milani for their small slice of the impervious world of high-end fashion.

If you couldn’t tell by the official quote above (courtesy of Milani Cosmetics), Milani is all about on trend, fashionable cosmetics. The US owned, Italian made cosmetics are of amazing quality, with ridiculously low prices. Officially known as a ‘drugstore brand’ in the US, they are hugely popular among beauty fanatics around the world.

Oooo, what did I get, what did I get?!?!?

I won’t lie. The morning may have started off a little rusty after a little dinner session with Katie Cazorla the night before. I totally blame Katie. She is a bad influence. However, I had no time to be rusty because Day 2 of Cosmoprof North America kicked off bright and early at 8:30am.

Day 2 was all about brands. I wanted to see some brands, experience some of the products and get a glimpse of new releases. Nails seemed to take centre stage on this day and I will be doing a separate post to show just all the amazing stuff we can expect to see over the coming months.

Deborah Lippmann

Manicurist extraordinaire, business maven and surprisingly talented singer, Deborah Lippmann, was extremely kind to offer up her morning to sit with us beauty bloggers to discuss her new collection. If you aren’t familiar with the Lippmann Collection of nail lacquers than you are missing out big time. They are just beautiful!

Deborah talked us through her inspiration behind how she comes up with colours, and it is crazy. Here are some things I learnt that I never knew.

  • Deborah started out in life wanting to be a Jazz singer. She still sings and has released an album, but it is more of a recreational focus.
  • All the names of her nail lacquers name are actually names of songs.
  • She will often have to create colours for celebrities or fashion designers based on their outfits … sometimes with only hours notice.
  • All her lacquers are 3 free (free from Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP)  and not tested on animals.

Aside from all that, the most refreshing thing about Deborah is how down to earth she really is. She is entertaining, amusing and genuinely sweet. Go girl!

Details: Deborah Lippmann lacquers are available in the US and Internationally. You can purchase online from Beauty Bridge (International Shipping available) or visit the website to find your nearest stockist.

Cleanliness is one of those things I get really finicky about. Toothpaste outside the tube, towels not hung up after using and makeup brushes horribly bent out of shape. They are all as bad as each other.

A few months ago I was browsing one of my favourite Aussie online beauty stores, Crush Cosmetics, and I came across these things called The Brush Guard. It sounded nifty, something to guard my brushes. Self explanatory right? Well, I had to buy them and give them a try. Could these little plastic sleeves keep my brushes in tip top shape? I decided on the variety pack which comes with 6 sleeves, in a selection of different sizes.

The variety pack

What I Say ….

  • Buying the assorted sizes pack was nifty because I could get an idea of what sizes fitted what brushes comfortably. Now I know exactly which ones I need more of without having to buy lots of different sizes.
  • The Large size is perfect for my DMK Powder Brush which is the biggest brush I own. It is usually super gigantic after washing, but now using the guard after washing it gives my brush a new lease on life.  Continue Reading

Best Vegan Skincare Brands

Everyone has their own opinion on what skincare should do and be, but for me it’s all about aiming for perfection. I don’t want skincare that does the bare minimum and let’s me age gracefully. I only want to use skincare that WORKS – constantly improving my skin and getting it to function at it’s very best. That’s why I’m sharing with you the best vegan skincare brands.

People often confuse my choice to be vegan as somehow meaning I don’t care about my aesthetics any more. They couldn’t be more wrong! My strict standards for top performing skincare isn’t lessened by my cruelty-free choices. If anything, it makes my standards even higher.

There’s a misconception that cruelty-free and vegan skincare is unable subpar; that they’re less effective than animal-based skincare formulations. While this may have been the case decades ago when vegan skincare exclusively meant “natural” products with little to no scientific basis, skincare development has come a long way since then. Don’t get me wrong, there are still hundreds of natural skincare brands out there that do exactly what I don’t want – they don’t improve your skin, they just make it feel and smell nice – and there is a market for those. Not everyone is deathly afraid of aging like me. However, if you strive for clear, healthy and progressively improving skin despite the years passing us by, than I have exactly what you need.

My list of top performing skincare brands will introduce you to the changemakers. The hard-working, highly efficient skincare that allows you to take charge of your own aging appearance. And it just so happens they’re also the best vegan skincare brands too!  Continue Reading
