Mary Kay Timewise Plus Regena-Firm Correcting Eye Cream Applicator

Second to sunscreen, eye cream would be the one skincare item I recommend to everyone. If you are trying slow down ageing you need to pay attention to the eye area. It’s one of the first areas to show damage and it’s equally one of the most difficult to reverse. An eye cream is essential no matter how old you are, but if you are already seeing the signs of ageing you need one that specially targets the visible symptoms. Mary Kay’s new Timewise Plus+ eye cream says it corrects eyes by giving them a lifted, more youthful look. Does it work? Despite my very early signs of ageing I’m still happy to reveal my thoughts in this review.  Continue Reading

FOTD Super Quick Makeup Tutorial

I’m terrible at getting ready in the morning. If I know I don’t have to see anyone until the afternoon I will stay barefaced and wear track pants until the last minute. That means I usually have only 10 minutes or less to throw on my makeup for a meeting or event.

This look was put together with not a minute to spare as I ran to a meeting. My goal was for a sheer but luminous complexion that wasn’t too heavy, an open-eye because I had been running on 5hrs sleep all week and some colour to liven me up with a sweet cheek and punchy lip. Recreate my look with these instructions and products.  Continue Reading

Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector

Dark under eye circles have crept back into my life recently as I have put in extra hours and late nights preparing this website for some new amazing features. They aren’t as bad as they used to be but having banished them with this DMK treatment I’m upset I have any at all. That means it was time to bring in the targeted eye treatments for dark circles. Clinique’s Even Better Eyes range has won countless awards but how does the Dark Circle Corrector stack up against my pigmented bags?

In this review I reveal if the product reduced the appearance of my under eye dark circles and if it was a product pleasant to use.

SK-II Facial Regime Header

SK-II is one of the big brands I had never got around to trying. I had heard so much about it, I have friends rave to me about it and in all honesty it has been towards the top of my list of products to try for a few years, but for some reason it just never happened. That all changed earlier this year when I had the opportunity to have a facial with Fumi Yamamoto, the founder of Zen Facial in Sydney. On paper Fumi is a wellness and spa consultant, but what she does goes far beyond that. Her facials are the what dreams are made of. Her hands are like little magic wands that vanish flaws and create good-lookingness (the thesaurus couldn’t give me a better word for that one).

Fumi was going to use all SK-II products so I had a skin consultation before to find out exactly what products were right for me. Using the SK-II Magic Ring (a special camera used at SK-II counters to look at the skin through different light waves) we determined my skin was in pretty good condition but I definitely had a few concerns to work on, namely some pigmentation, dryness and of course my desire to slow down the ageing process. I don’t need to tell you about the facial, because it was amazing and I fell asleep, so I am going to share my review of the products I was prescribed and whether the regime worked for me.  Continue Reading

Environ Ionzyme C-Quence Eye GelI usually don’t have a preference over formula when it comes to eye products. Eye cream, eye serum, eye gel – they are all good to me, but I must admit that there is nothing quite like the feeling of a cool gel on tired, puffy eyes. It is so refreshing and it has the power to snap life back into the deadest of eyes. I have been working pretty hard of late so that is why I decided to give the Ionzyme C-Quence eye gel a try from Environ. How did it perform? Read my review to find out. Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
