14 Beauty Tools to try in 2014

It’s a new year and time to set some new goals. Despite my obsession with looking and feeling my best, it’s my laziness that gets in the way of looking after myself as much as I should. I may own all the beauty products in the world but when it comes to using them I slack off after a couple of uses. This year I aim to take better care of my body and one way I’m contemplating doing that is by making use of some high-tech beauty inventions. 2014 will be the year I embrace the beauty tool.

Let’s take a look at 14 revolutionary beauty tools that could change your body (and your life) this year. Continue Reading

OPI Designer Series DS Raw Granite Collection

The Designer Series (DS) nail polishes by OPI are one of my most prized possessions. I purchased my first ones recently at Hair Expo but the collection has been on my lust list for quite some time. The recent announcement from OPI that two new DS polishes would be launching soon was music to my ears, and now I can finally share some images with you.

This season OPI launch Raw Granite – two new shades inspired by raw granite. The winning detail for me is that unlike their other Designer Series siblings, the two new hues come with a matte textured finish. While I haven’t been able to get my hands on them yet, I am told that they are comparable to the OPI Liquid Sand nail lacquers except the DS ones have series sparkle. So let’s meet the new kids: Continue Reading

Hair Expo Australia is one of my favourite ways to spend a long weekend. Each year the Australian and international hair industry comes together to put on a weekend of learning, demonstration and celebration. Taking up two massive halls at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, and countless convention rooms, the industry comes together and creates a vibe that can only be experienced to understand. The one word that comes to mind is unity. Of course every business and hairdresser are forever competing to be the best in their field, but on the weekend that is Hair Expo it is like there is no competition, just friendship and a place to enjoy what they love. What that means for me is a place where I feel in my element to explore beauty, and while Hair Expo is not a “shopping” expo and it is for trade only, it places me in a state of mind where I just want to spend. I want to try everything and anything. So at the few stands who were selling things that I didn’t already own, I bought some items that were on my wishlist. Here is what I hauled: Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
