NYFW Beauty Products

You saw what I took in my beauty bag to New York Fashion Week but what about my makeup bag? Picking which makeup I take away with me is definitely the hardest task I have to face when travelling. It would be like choosing which one of your kids gets to travel with you, except the criteria I look at for my choices comes down to versatility, reliability and proven success at making me look good. Rarely will I take a makeup product that I’ve never used before because I don’t have the room to take more than one of each item …. except for lipstick of course. And eyeshadows. And lashes.

As I did with my beauty bag, I try to take miniature and deluxe sized samples where possible and palettes for items where I need a choice of a few colours, excluding lipsticks because I usually need to carry the lipstick around with me all day for touch-ups.

Without further ado, here’s the makeup that landed in my suitcase.  Continue Reading

Blue Gradient Eye Liner Tutorial
Gradient liner is pretty, helps elongate the eyes, and is a great way to add a pop of color to your look whether you are looking to slowly expand into more colorful looks or simple just prefer a subtle touch of color. I chose a subtle blue, which I find compliments my brown eyes. You can substitute any color scheme you want!  Continue Reading

In the ever continuing story of my recent trip to the USA, I bring you yet another haul post. Most of these items were indeed last minute grabs with little thinking involved. Just how I like it!

CVS

Drugstore chain CVS are one of my favourite places to shop for beauty products. They sell everything and anything. In the case of this haul, it was 3am one Vegas morning and my jetlag was getting the better of me. God bless the 24hr drugstores I say. On the downside, CVS sells things online cheaper than in store, but I won’t complain because everything in store is still so much cheaper than Australia.

I spent 2 hours perusing the aisles of the nearest CVS and came out with these goodies …

Grand Total (including tax): US $66.92

Last Thursday (26 May) we celebrated the wonderful birthday of yours truly, The Plastic Diaries. Yes, we reached the ripe old age of 1. I mentioned to you briefly that today (May 30) I will be celebrating with a big giveaway. For those of you who are regular readers of The Plastic Diaries you may notice that today is the last Monday of the month, which is usually when we have our monthly giveaway, but this month I wanted to honour our 1st birthday by doing something a little different. Instead of giving away just 1 product that I love from the past 30 days, I wanted to do a years worth. This giveaway features products or brands I have mentioned in the past year, whether it had been a review or a special offer, there is a mix of everything.

Why This Giveaway

Before I get into the prizes and competition nitty gritty, I just wanted to say a few quick words. HA! I know, I have never said a ‘few’ or ‘quick’ words in my lifetime, but I will try.

Making it to the 1 year mark for me means a lot. It has been a tiresome, exhausting, crazy and joyful ride that I wouldn’t have changed a minute of. However, how this past year has been for me is of no real importance. This past year has really been about you. Talking to you, sharing with you and having fun with you. More than anything I hope you have learnt something while reading The Plastic Diaries but also had a little fun. Some of you openly express your opinions, via the comments, Twitter or Facebook, and I love every time you do. Others sit there quietly and support me from a far, I love that too.

On Monday I let you in on what I got up to while running around at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. One thing I promised to bring you was more details on make-up extraordinaire, Terry Barber.

So, who is Terry Barber? Officially, he is the UK Director of Make-Up Artistry for MAC. Unofficially, he is a world class, wicked make-up artist who creates looks backstage at fashion shows all over the globe. The man has talent, and he knows how to use it.

I was lucky enough to have crossed paths with him backstage at the Stolen Girlfriends Club show during RAFW. The task he was given was no easy feat, as he had two VERY different looks to create, but he did so perfectly. You will be able to read more about it over at Sassybella this week, so make sure you hop over and keep an eye out.

As I was saying, Terry is talented, but in order to help the women of Australia compile the correct products for their own beauty kit, Terry selected 5 must-have items to share with us. Here they are along with my own personal opinion of them.

Terry's Essentials

Studio Careblend / Pressed Powder

US $23 / UK £17.50

MAC Says: Formulated to provide a smooth, virtually invisible, fresh-looking finish, this soft, cream-like powder is carefully blended to provide the skin with extra care, nourishment and comfort.

I Say: The colour I have is Medium Dark which I thought would be WAY to dark for me, however it surprisingly isn’t that noticeable. Maybe I am using too little or my eyesight is broken, but it actually finishes of my make-up quite nicely and you can’t see the colour. The powder is silky smooth and it doesn’t sit in creases or get that dry-flaky look. One thing I don’t like is the basic powder puff that it comes with, but let’s be honest and say if you are using MAC you would have some proper tools at hand. I personally like to use a much bigger fluffy puff.

Cremeblend Blush

AU $40 / US $19.50 / UK £17

MAC Says: A poured cream blush uniquely formulated to bring a natural, softly dewy look to the cheek. Creamy and soft to apply, yet colour, depth and dimension stay throughout the day. Provides a luxuriously smooth, medium-buildable coverage. May be used on cheeks or lips.

I Say: Generally I am scared of creamy blushes because I am fair skinned and I have a rough hand (I always over apply). I am loving this blush in ‘Something Special’ because it is so easy Continue Reading
