Next Generation Skincare Classics

There are some beauty products that have such a cult following that the brands have dared not tinker with them for decades. They are the products that are considered “classics”, the staple of a beauty regime for thousands (if not millions) of women. Every beauty brand hopes to have just one of their products rise to such infamy but few rarely do. So why on earth would the lucky handful of brands that do have such a product decide to reformulate it? There is only one answer – technology.

I’ve been taking a look back at some of the beauty worlds most popular products and I’ve seen that in the past 2 years many of the skincare products have been reformulated. The reasoning behind it appears to be the technological advances rippling through the beauty industry. New ingredients, better ways of harvesting and preserving ingredients, the desire for more natural/organic ingredients and of course, plain old science can now tell us more about the human body than it ever has before thus making beauty products have a new requirement to perform and prove their results.

Take a stroll with me as we look at the next generation of some of your favourite cult beauty products.  Continue Reading

New Release Beauty Favourites Feb 2013

I don’t want to alarm anyone but I think the beauty industry took steroids this month because they seriously bulked up! Nails and makeup were the big players this time around here but surprisingly I had ZERO hair products. I played with a total of 92 products launching this month and none of them were hair. I am gobsmacked.

Nevertheless, I was kept very busy and compiling this list of new products to be excited about was more difficult than I had hoped it would be. I apologise now for any lusting that may occur as a result of this beauty porn. Let’s begin.

A little while ago I was lucky enough to attend a small make-up class at the Lancôme counter in Myer Sydney City Store, hosted by Michael Brown, the National Make-Up Artist for Lancôme in Australia.

I had been looking forward to this event for some time because, as you already know, I am quite a fan of Lancôme. When I get attached to a brand, like I have done with Lancôme, I feel I hold them to a much higher standard. I expect everything they do to be magic. For this reason, I may have put a little pressure on Michael (in my mind anyway), to achieve greatness and impress me with some tips I had never heard before. Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Dermaquest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser

Face cleansers are seen as quite an underrated product in terms of our overall skincare needs, but they’re actually really important. The correct cleanser for your skin should remove dirt, debris and build-up that otherwise gets in the way of your other skincare products delivering their best results. A vast majority of skin issues can be activated simply by using the wrong cleanser. When it comes to anti-aging, it’s essential to not use a face cleanser that is drying or stripping. Hydration is key, and that’s one of the major claims behind the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser.

As I continue my fight against aging and dry skin I’ve tested the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser. Is it worth the price tag? Read on to find out.  Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
