GoodnessMe Health Food Box

I’m a little late to join the subscription box bandwagon but I’ve been enjoying exploring what is out there since the beauty box boom happened in Australia almost 2 years ago. Health and wellbeing boxes are definitely on the rise and I was excited to hear about the GoodnessMe, an Australian food sampling box focused on wholesome and natural products. The hook for me was that every product in the box is always GMO-free and that’s something I’m finding to be more and more important.

So let’s see what I got in the August GoodnessMe box and my review of the included products.  Continue Reading

LCN Ceramic Nail Polish

I love discovering new nail brands because the fact is there are just so many out there that we would never have heard about if it weren’t for blogs. Prior to reading blogs I think I knew of maybe 10 nail polish brands and they were all readily available at drugstores or department stores. Now I know there is a whole world out there and I can’t wait to share with you yet another brand I hadn’t heard of previously, LCN.

LCN is a professional nail brand that makes luxury hand, nail and foot care products. Their vegan nail polishes are big 5 free, soy-free and gluten-free so they are appealing to those with all kinds of allergies as well as being a high-performance product. Will they stack up for me? I have two of their polishes to show you and review. As always my swatches are 2 medium coats on bare nails (no base coat, no top coat). Continue Reading

Vegan Cuts May Snack Box

When people find out that I’m vegan there is one question I am asked more than any other question …. “what DO you eat?”. I never know how to answer it because there is just so much I do eat. The list of what I don’t eat is much shorter, and most people don’t even realise that many things they already eat are vegan. With this constant question in mind and the continued interest from all of you to learn more about a truly cruelty-free lifestyle I thought I would do a few posts touching on vegan food.

People generally assume that eating vegan food instantly means it’s health food. That isn’t always the case because there are lots of unhealthy ingredients that don’t come from animals, i.e. sugar. However, in general vegan ‘junk food’ is naturally healthier than the animal-ingredient alternatives because it doesn’t have the trans fat and all the nasty chemicals/hormones that farmers feed the animals. So my point is, vegan food isn’t always a ‘health food’ but it is always more healthy than non-vegan food.

Why the long spiel, you ask? Today’s post is to introduce you to a service I’ve been using since starting my cruelty-free lifestyle. Vegan Cuts is a subscription box service that offers two monthly boxes, a Snack box and a Beauty box. The snack box has been invaluable with helping me discover just how delicious veganism is, and how many amazing products the world has to offer. This review is of the most recent snack box for May.  Continue Reading

Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals A Foundation

A big topic of discussion in one of my many vegan groups is foundation. It’s not that it’s difficult to find good vegan foundation, it’s that as a woman you learn to stick to particular brands and formulas that work for you so it becomes a whole new chapter of discovery when you need to change. This is a journey I am currently in the midst of and so far I’m loving it. That is why I’m bringing you this review of Jane Iredale’s Liquid Minerals A Foundation.

Forget what you think you know about mineral foundation. Liquid Minerals involves no powders, no tapping, no buffing. It’s what you would expect from a liquid foundation …. or is it? Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
