Pantone 2013 Emerald Main Image

I always look forward to the big reveal of Pantone’s Colour Of The Year choice. The sweet pink shade of Honeysuckle won the coveted spot in 2011 and I completed a mammoth task to show you some of the beauty products out there already donning the winning shade. Since then the beauty industry has seen the potential in this prestigious recognition of colour and in 2012 Sephora collaborated directly with Pantone to release the Pantone Universe collection in the 2012 Colour Of The Year, Tangerine Tango. For 2013 I am back to my original ways of showing you some of the greatest pieces I have found in the 2013 Colour Of The Year, Emerald.

Emerald can be interpreted in many different ways and even Pantone have shown a diverse selection in their own mood boards. To start this in-depth look at the items you can add to your wardrobe or beauty kit we should learn a bit about Pantone’s decision to choose Emerald.

It is finally here. December. There is Christmas, Chanukah, end of work functions, New Years Eve and the start of Winter (for the north) and Summer (for the south). It is one of the months we spend the most money all year so it is important to be really savvy if you are on a budget. That is why this months new release favourites are most important. The items I will show you are worth the pennies, in my opinion.

This month we also saw the launch of gift packs for the gift giving season. Rather than filing up this post with all the amazing goodies I have created some gift guides to help you purchase those gifts for your loved ones. I have shared my top beauty items from Sephora and Mecca, and there are fashion & beauty gifts for Australians, Girly Girls and Kris Kringle.

Now to my favourite new products for December. This month I don’t have a lot of items, because as I said this is a time for picking things that are really worth the money. Enjoy! Continue Reading

September. The start of Spring (in Australia) and a very welcome change of temperature, while the northern hemisphere move into fall. It is the time where we switch our wardrobes, makeup, skincare and almost every part of our lives. In beauty, we have seen a big change this time around. September is a big month.

So far I have welcomed 98 new products going on sale this month. It is the most new launches I have seen since starting this series in March but I also believe the most in my entire 2 and a bit years of writing The Plastic Diaries. With this huge number of new beauty products you can bet that creating this months list was awfully difficult. Continue Reading

The newest collection from Australian nail brand, Hello Darling, is Rockcandy. Known to many as the “caviar” manicure, this collection combines the two essential ingredients of the popular manicure into one little neat package. Each nail lacquer in the Rockcandy collection comes with a pot of colour-matched glass microbeads. Today I am showing you the images from the collection and all the nail shades available.

The month of May seems quieter on the new products front, but I have a sneaking suspicion it is because June will be a big one. But don’t you worry, there are still lots of great products to tickle your fancy this month. The following ones got me jumping for joy.

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Dermaquest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser

Face cleansers are seen as quite an underrated product in terms of our overall skincare needs, but they’re actually really important. The correct cleanser for your skin should remove dirt, debris and build-up that otherwise gets in the way of your other skincare products delivering their best results. A vast majority of skin issues can be activated simply by using the wrong cleanser. When it comes to anti-aging, it’s essential to not use a face cleanser that is drying or stripping. Hydration is key, and that’s one of the major claims behind the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser.

As I continue my fight against aging and dry skin I’ve tested the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser. Is it worth the price tag? Read on to find out.  Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
