When I was a teenager I was very curious about makeup and beauty products, and I was extremely lucky that I had a mother who never stopped me from exploring that interest. My mother wasn’t a major consumer of beauty products but she owned makeup and I had seen her use it, and she went to the beautician every now and then but to me it was like a foreign world that I longed to explore. My mother would let me buy little makeup kits or palettes every now and then, or she would buy me them as a treat, and thinking of this memory it hit me that they were some of the best gifts I had ever received.
I’ve posted a number of Beauty gift guides over the past few weeks but this one I’m dedicating to the girls and women who are just toeing with their interest in beauty. Whether it be you or someone you know, someone aged 8 or 48 … there comes a time for most women when that interest is sparked, and when nurtured and allowed to run free it can grow to become something wonderful. As I’ve always believed, beauty products aren’t a selfish commodity, they are a tool of creativity, of art and of self-expression. Continue Reading
I’m absolutely obsessed with rose gold right now. It’s by far the prettiest shade of jewellery I’ve seen but the trend in rose gold bling has now spilled over to other fashion items, beauty products and even homewares. But where things differ is that the fashion world is obsessed with street style, while the beauty world seems to focus on the catwalk. I believe the tables should be turned because it’s the real people, out on the streets, who are bringing beauty looks to life. This is why I flew to New York Fashion Week to bring you this special series of Street Style Beauty.
I discovered some gorgeous looks and some key trends from the most fashionable people. In the first post of this 3-part series I showed you hair street style, and now I’m going to show you the makeup I saw at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, New York. Continue Reading
You saw what I took in my beauty bag to New York Fashion Week but what about my makeup bag? Picking which makeup I take away with me is definitely the hardest task I have to face when travelling. It would be like choosing which one of your kids gets to travel with you, except the criteria I look at for my choices comes down to versatility, reliability and proven success at making me look good. Rarely will I take a makeup product that I’ve never used before because I don’t have the room to take more than one of each item …. except for lipstick of course. And eyeshadows. And lashes.
As I did with my beauty bag, I try to take miniature and deluxe sized samples where possible and palettes for items where I need a choice of a few colours, excluding lipsticks because I usually need to carry the lipstick around with me all day for touch-ups.
Without further ado, here’s the makeup that landed in my suitcase. Continue Reading
