5 Things You Need To Know SPF50

Late last year Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) announced new sunscreen standards. Previously the highest SPF rating you could have for a product in Australia was SPF 30, but the new legislation took that up to SPF 50 with some other important bits updated along with it. Even thought most brands in Australia knew the change was coming, very few had product go on sale during our summer with the new SPF 50 rating. That means that our upcoming Spring/Summer will be the first time most people will have ever heard about a change and may be overwhelmed with all the new options.

To make things a little easier to understand I have expert Emma Hobson, Education Manager Australia, Asia & New Zealand For The International Dermal Institute & Dermalogica, to give us five bites of the most important things you need to know with SPF 50.  Continue Reading

After indulging in a delicious Priori facial last week and posting about it on Instagram, one lovely follower by the name of kath3010 asked a brilliant question:

Are facials supposed to include extractions? Are there even any benefits of having ones without extractions? I just always thought that was the whole point.

I admit I was shocked that Kath3010 thought there was no point to a facial if there were no extractions because in my opinion there are absolutely benefits. However, it occurred to me that perhaps not every beauty therapist is explaining the benefits of their treatment and that is definitely something they should being doing so you don’t feel like you are wasting money.

My own personal belief is that facials are without a doubt beneficial whether or not extractions occur. I generally leave it up to my beauty therapist to decide what needs to be done during my facial but on occasion when I feel my pores are black and clogged I will ask my therapist to do some extractions. Every beauty therapist will have their own methods and way of treating problem skin, and it will take time for you to find someone that attends to your skin exactly how you like. Choosing a beauty therapist is as personal as picking a hairdresser or husband.

I don’t want you to take my word for it that facials are beneficial without extractions. I have spoken with Emma Hobson, Education Manager International Dermal Institute Australia, New Zealand and Asia, to give us all some much needed insight into why facials are an essential treatment for our skin.

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
