Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries sharing her review of Bioderma Sensibio H2O Makeup Remover Wipes

Bioderma Sensibio h20 Micelle Cleansing Water is a popular choice for makeup removal worldwide. Little did I know that this makeup remover was also available in the convenient and handy wipes format. I spotted the Bioderma Sensibio H2O Wipes during an emergency trip to a pharmacy in Paris when I was struck down with a killer flu. As usual, I go in for medicine and I come out with beauty products. No shock there.

Do the wipes work as well as the original micelle water solution? Are they any better than other makeup removal wipes? My review tells you whether these are worth your attention.  Continue Reading

NARS Makeup Remover

I’m really lazy when it comes to removing my makeup so I look for products that require minimum effort. Usually a pack of makeup remover wipes or facial cleansing towelettes is the answer but it struck me recently that perhaps those items aren’t the most economical solution. A whole bottle of makeup removing liquid, in partnership with some cotton pads, could probably save me a fair bit of money. This is the path I’ve now started on, finding the best makeup removing solution to take off ALL my makeup, not just eye makeup.

I’ve been trialling the NARS Makeup Removing Water which is a luxe option on the scale of makeup removers. Does the extra pennies get you a better clean? My review tells you.  Continue Reading

NYFW Beauty Products

You saw what I took in my beauty bag to New York Fashion Week but what about my makeup bag? Picking which makeup I take away with me is definitely the hardest task I have to face when travelling. It would be like choosing which one of your kids gets to travel with you, except the criteria I look at for my choices comes down to versatility, reliability and proven success at making me look good. Rarely will I take a makeup product that I’ve never used before because I don’t have the room to take more than one of each item …. except for lipstick of course. And eyeshadows. And lashes.

As I did with my beauty bag, I try to take miniature and deluxe sized samples where possible and palettes for items where I need a choice of a few colours, excluding lipsticks because I usually need to carry the lipstick around with me all day for touch-ups.

Without further ado, here’s the makeup that landed in my suitcase.  Continue Reading

NYFW Beauty Products

I love travelling but for me the worst part is packing (and unpacking, to be honest). I’ve given you a few tips about packing previously but what on earth does a girl pack for New York Fashion Week? It’s a week of post-summer warm weather in a humid city, running around all parts of town, and glitzy fashionistas at swinging soirees. My beauty bag has to carry everything I need to survive the week and even after all these years of attending Australian Fashion Week I still have no idea what to pack until the very last minute.

I try to take miniatures of all my beauty products where possible and I try to avoid sachets or little packets, where possible. I recommend collating deluxe samples when they’re available as gift with purchase offers or as perks from your favourite beauty store (Sephora, I’m looking at you!). These are the beauty products that accompanied me to NYFW 2014.

Swisspers Facial Cleansing Wipes

Face cleansing wipes are a vital part of my makeup removal routine. I always try to remove as much makeup as possible with a wipe or makeup remover on a cotton pad before I cleanse my face. I find this is a gentler method than double-cleansing with the one face wash, especially if I’m using a particularly harsh cleanser at the time.  Swisspers say their Aloe Skin Perfecting wipes are just what I need to remove my makeup gently and effectively. Are they right? Read my review for the answer.  Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
