Posts in Media Makeup

With 2011 only days away from ending, I wanted to give a quick refresh on our Top 5 beauty blog posts from 2011. These top 5 are purely ranked by statistics, so they are the ones people read the most, not necessarily the ones I or anyone else actually liked the most.

If you are only new to The Plastic Diaries, or new to beauty blogs in general, or maybe have been a long time reader but just so happened to miss the below posts, do have a read because some of them aren’t half bad (I hope!). I am also going to give you an update on any findings, news or simple changes since the original post went live, if applicable.

I can’t remember when exactly my love affair started with Make Up For Ever but I know when it went ‘stalker’. It was as soon as I laid eyes on HD Foundation.

To this day, and many Make Up For Ever products later, I am yet to find a dud. However, HD Foundation is currently on top of my leader board. It is my HG (Holy Grail) foundation. It is my go to foundation. It is my everything.

Ok, you know I love Make Up For Ever (if you didn’t you must be a new reader, Welcome!), so when I saw this kit on Sephora just before new years, I HAD to have it. No questions asked. I finally got it the other day with my new Sephora haul. Unfortunately, by the time I got it (2 months later) they were no longer available and I can’t find it on any of the Sephora websites. Not cool Sephora. But, then again, that is the whole point of a limited edition I guess. Ok, I love you again Sephora.
Oh but WAIT, before you close this screen, all the colours I am going to show you are available individually, and I may have a couple other ways for you to get your hands on it. So all is not lost. Stick with me, I know you will love them!

The other day I was walking down the uber-trendy Danks Street in Sydney after having my nails done, and what I walked past actually made me choke. To my surprise there was a massive Make Up For Ever sign in the window of this store, PM Studio. For anyone in Australia who knows Make Up For Ever, you would know how impossible it is to purchase the brand here. As far as I knew (and I had spent many hours searching and writing heartfelt emails to the company) the only supplier of this product was Media Makeup in Adelaide, who had limited stock, limited colour range and quite a noticeable difference in price. At last weekends International Make Up Artist Trade Show (IMATS) I was so happy to find the Media Makeup stand. You see, they are the exclusive Australian distributor for Make Up For Ever and are only based in Adelaide. Despite my best efforts, it seems there is no other way to get your hands on this brand if you live in Australia. Media Makeup do have an online store but they don’t seem to have all the products available. That presented me with quite a dilemma. While in the USA, I discovered Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Dermaquest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser

Face cleansers are seen as quite an underrated product in terms of our overall skincare needs, but they’re actually really important. The correct cleanser for your skin should remove dirt, debris and build-up that otherwise gets in the way of your other skincare products delivering their best results. A vast majority of skin issues can be activated simply by using the wrong cleanser. When it comes to anti-aging, it’s essential to not use a face cleanser that is drying or stripping. Hydration is key, and that’s one of the major claims behind the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser.

As I continue my fight against aging and dry skin I’ve tested the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser. Is it worth the price tag? Read on to find out.  Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
