I recently published a review of my first Vegan Cuts beauty box, which is a beauty box subscription service that helps people to discover vegan and cruelty-free beauty. The great thing about this box is that it helps you to discover beauty products you would never have known exist otherwise. If you like indie beauty brands, bespoke and boutique beauty, this is the box for you.

Scout Cosmetics Mineral Foundation

I haven’t used mineral powder foundation for quite a few years because my skin. I used to be in love with it, specifically bareMinerals, but as I get busier with life I prefer liquid products that are quick to apply and last longer through a hectic day. However, powder foundation formulations have come a long way since I stopped using them and I wanted to revisit them to see how well they do now. Plus, gone are the days of just 2 or 3 mineral makeup brands because now there is such a competitive market for them. Today I’m sharing my review of the mineral powder foundation from Scout Cosmetics, an Australian beauty brand that makes luxury cruelty-free, vegan cosmetics.  Continue Reading

Cruelty-free Vegan Makeup

During a community chat within a vegan group I was asked about which foundations are best. One of the harder parts about going vegan is replacing your favourite beauty with cruelty-free options, but you would be surprised to know that many of the great cosmetics in the market are actually cruelty-free or vegan already. With the increased public demand for compassionate products we’re seeing more brands changing their ways without compromising the quality or performance of their products. It’s a win win win – for us, the animals and the environment.

Take a look at my top picks and see if your favourite makes the cut, or perhaps find a replacement for your animal-tested products. Continue Reading

Best Loose Powder for Setting Makeup

When it comes to flawless makeup, setting it is just as important as the foundation you use and your application. If you have oily skin you’re most likely already doing it but if you have dry skin you’re probably skipping it for fear of it making your skin flaky. It’s important to know that not all face powders are made equally. Some are better for dry skin while others are better for oily …. but my favourites are good for any skin type. They won’t dry you out or make you produce more oil. They will leave your skin looking flawless and extend the wear of your coverage. In my opinion, these are THE best face powders for setting your makeup.  Continue Reading

Mineralogie Liquid Hydration Sheer Tint Before vs After

Mineral makeup has come a long way over the past few years. If you like the “good for you” benefits of mineral makeup you no longer have to be restricted to a tub of powder and a buffing brush. Liquids are just as common in mineral makeup now and you can get a variety of finishes to suit your needs.

Mineralogie is a cruelty-free USA brand that prides itself on showing off how versatile mineral makeup can be. In my search for some new vegan foundations I was led to Liquid Hydration Sheer Tint. The question this review answers is whether a liquid mineral makeup, free from fillers and nasties, can actually perform to the standard of a chemical laden version.  Continue Reading

Best Vegan Skincare Brands

Everyone has their own opinion on what skincare should do and be, but for me it’s all about aiming for perfection. I don’t want skincare that does the bare minimum and let’s me age gracefully. I only want to use skincare that WORKS – constantly improving my skin and getting it to function at it’s very best. That’s why I’m sharing with you the best vegan skincare brands.

People often confuse my choice to be vegan as somehow meaning I don’t care about my aesthetics any more. They couldn’t be more wrong! My strict standards for top performing skincare isn’t lessened by my cruelty-free choices. If anything, it makes my standards even higher.

There’s a misconception that cruelty-free and vegan skincare is unable subpar; that they’re less effective than animal-based skincare formulations. While this may have been the case decades ago when vegan skincare exclusively meant “natural” products with little to no scientific basis, skincare development has come a long way since then. Don’t get me wrong, there are still hundreds of natural skincare brands out there that do exactly what I don’t want – they don’t improve your skin, they just make it feel and smell nice – and there is a market for those. Not everyone is deathly afraid of aging like me. However, if you strive for clear, healthy and progressively improving skin despite the years passing us by, than I have exactly what you need.

My list of top performing skincare brands will introduce you to the changemakers. The hard-working, highly efficient skincare that allows you to take charge of your own aging appearance. And it just so happens they’re also the best vegan skincare brands too!  Continue Reading
