Essie professional LED light

You would think the nail gel market is overflowing but the big wigs at Essie feel otherwise. Despite the competitive market between CND Shellac, Bio Sculpture Bio Gel, Gelish, OPI Gel Color and more, Essie plan to launch their own professional gel service, Essie Gel, this coming October.

Gerald Densk, Essie’s general manager for the professional products division of L’Oréal USA, has told WWD that gels are a growing market and it isn’t something they can afford to ignore. It is obvious to most that Essie is not receiving the same interest from salons as it does from consumers so this could be a good move for them to get more salons using their products.  Continue Reading

Gold Leaf Nail Art

As the northern hemisphere moves in to all things Fall beauty, we will see a much better selection of colours that play well with the official Pantone Color of the Year, Emerald. One of the main colours I am already noticing start to pop up is Antique Gold, closely followed by Old Gold. These two shades aren’t your typical metallic golds so I was inspired to see what we could create in the form of nail art that would incorporate the two. Today I am showing you a 4 fabulous ways with the use of Bio Sculpture gel and lots of additives, but you can recreate these looks with regular nail polish too.

Before I show you the dazzling manicure, let’s take a look at what exactly makes old/antique gold different.

The Colours

Old Gold is a dark yellow, which varies from light olive or olive brown to deep or strong yellow.

Antique Gold is a variable color averaging a dark yellow that is greener, lighter, and stronger than mustard.

Bio Sculpture Missoni Nail Art Instagram

I am going to ease back into the working week by showing off my colourful Missoni inspired nail art I was rocking last week. This was a lovely design created by Jackie from Bio Sculpture Australia. I love Bio Sculpture and always love getting a clean coloured nail from their gel, but nail art is something I haven’t played around with much. The first time I experimented with Bio Sculpture nail art was for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia in 2012. This time around I wanted something a little more complicated. With Chevron being such a big theme in nail art right now, I liked the idea of taking it smaller and colourful, and who does that better than Missoni?

Bio Sculpture have also JUST released their brand new 12W LED light, which cures faster than their previous UV light (now only 30 seconds), uses less energy and has emits less UV. This was my first time with the new system and it was very impressive. The new light is also much smaller so it takes up less space at the work station.

Now let’s see the nails …  Continue Reading

CND Sweet Dreams Shellac Collection

I feel like it has been quite sometime since we last saw a new batch of Shellac colours from CND. The last ones I saw were way back in 2011 and I did love those. But if you are eager for some hot new nail hues the wait will be over very soon. Last month CND announced the Sweet Dreams Collection for their smash hit Shellac power polish range. Today I am revealing the collection to you and I would love to know your thoughts on it.  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Dermaquest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser

Face cleansers are seen as quite an underrated product in terms of our overall skincare needs, but they’re actually really important. The correct cleanser for your skin should remove dirt, debris and build-up that otherwise gets in the way of your other skincare products delivering their best results. A vast majority of skin issues can be activated simply by using the wrong cleanser. When it comes to anti-aging, it’s essential to not use a face cleanser that is drying or stripping. Hydration is key, and that’s one of the major claims behind the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser.

As I continue my fight against aging and dry skin I’ve tested the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser. Is it worth the price tag? Read on to find out.  Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
