Cruelty-free Vegan Makeup

During a community chat within a vegan group I was asked about which foundations are best. One of the harder parts about going vegan is replacing your favourite beauty with cruelty-free options, but you would be surprised to know that many of the great cosmetics in the market are actually cruelty-free or vegan already. With the increased public demand for compassionate products we’re seeing more brands changing their ways without compromising the quality or performance of their products. It’s a win win win – for us, the animals and the environment.

Take a look at my top picks and see if your favourite makes the cut, or perhaps find a replacement for your animal-tested products. Continue Reading

Beauty Blogger Recommended Palettes
I love palettes. I think they could actually be my most loved colour cosmetic of all. Whether it be an eyeshadow palette, a lip and cheek palette, or just an everything-in-one. There is something about having lots of pretty colours neatly packaged into one compact that gets me giddy, and apparently I’m not the only beauty blogger who feels that way.

To find out which palettes are popular with the people, I asked my pals in the Beauty Blog Coalition to share their absolute, one-and-only favourite palette and why.  Continue Reading

Best Loose Powder for Setting Makeup

When it comes to flawless makeup, setting it is just as important as the foundation you use and your application. If you have oily skin you’re most likely already doing it but if you have dry skin you’re probably skipping it for fear of it making your skin flaky. It’s important to know that not all face powders are made equally. Some are better for dry skin while others are better for oily …. but my favourites are good for any skin type. They won’t dry you out or make you produce more oil. They will leave your skin looking flawless and extend the wear of your coverage. In my opinion, these are THE best face powders for setting your makeup.  Continue Reading

USA Beauty Shopping

When I’m at home in my own city there is nothing I loathe more than spending a full day at the shops looking for beauty products. I LOVE shopping for beauty products but I find it most enjoyable when I’m in a foreign city. I adore shopping in the USA because of the huge selection available, the lower price points and the sales assistants who actually help you (yes, that’s rare in Australia).

I’ve just returned from a business trip in the USA and many of you have been nagging me to share my haul. I’m going to start with my beauty haul because it’s the largest (of course!). In comparison to past trips I would say this haul is small but I stuck to things I actually had on my lust list and/or items I absolutely love. I tried to keep the splurging to a minimum …. but I’m only human.  Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
