Proactiv Advanced Blemish Pimple Cream

I don’t know what it is but pimples have been attacking my face the past few months. I know I’ve been exceptionally stressed, and that accounts for the majority of my breakouts, but I’m thinking there is an underlying cause I need to investigate. I’ve never had many breakouts in my years and I was hoping to skate through life with few more. Seeing as though that hasn’t been the case recently, I’ve turned to blemish spot treatments to help me over a few lumpy breakouts until I get my skin on track. I’ve never used, nor had a need to use, Proactiv Solution products but when I found the little tube of Advanced Blemish Cream buried deep in a box of skincare products I thought now would be the time to give it a go.

Do you need acne in order to use Proactiv? Will Proactiv work for my dry, mildly-blemished skin? Does Proactiv really work for Adam Levine, Julianne Hough and Naya Rivera? My review reveals the answers, except for that last question (who knows what works for celebrities!?!). Continue Reading

Best Loose Powder for Setting Makeup

When it comes to flawless makeup, setting it is just as important as the foundation you use and your application. If you have oily skin you’re most likely already doing it but if you have dry skin you’re probably skipping it for fear of it making your skin flaky. It’s important to know that not all face powders are made equally. Some are better for dry skin while others are better for oily …. but my favourites are good for any skin type. They won’t dry you out or make you produce more oil. They will leave your skin looking flawless and extend the wear of your coverage. In my opinion, these are THE best face powders for setting your makeup.  Continue Reading

Inglot Multi-Action Toners

Inglot is a brand I have minimal experience with but I know how popular it is with makeup artists and enthusiasts alike. Their eyeshadows are probably what they are most well known for, thanks to their Freedom System that allows users to customise their own eyeshadow palette. They are currently located in 420 doors in over 50 countries and are rapidly growing, with plans to open 25 more doors by the end of this year. Along with their growth comes news that Inglot will launch their very first skincare products.

Your makeup is only going to look as good as your skin underneath

This is the statement Hayden Tee, Inglot’s creative director, told WWD. You may have heard similar previously because it is something I often scream about. Skin is the canvas, and the paint (makeup) can only do so much.  Continue Reading

New Release Beauty Favourites August 2013

*BLINK* Did you see that? I think it was August. It just flew right past my face! It has been a jam packed month for me with the Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo taking place, as well as a calendar full of beauty launches and media events. I have played my way through nearly 175 new products that launched in August, and that is excluding the fabulous new products I discovered at the expo. As always it was incredibly difficult to pick out the products that truly captured my attention. I have to say the month of August really did show off just how innovative the beauty market really is.

I hope you find something new to discover in this months best new beauty product launches. Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
