Luxe vs Less - Body Conditioners

Using body lotion during Spring-Summer is a tricky time in my life. I don’t like the feeling of lotion on my body in warm weather, and I hate it in hot weather. The feeling of slime running from your skin as you sweat in a blistering, humid Australian summer is not a pleasant experience. My desire to avoid such situation means I will often go without moisturizing at all, even though I know my skin needs it. However, since I discovered in-shower body lotions I no longer have an excuse to avoid skin moisturizing. The only question is, do I need to spend a lot to get a good result?

Today I’m putting two of the biggest in-shower body lotions up against each other. I’m putting the luxe, best-selling Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner from Lush Cosmetics up against Nivea’s new Cocoa Indulging In-Shower Body Lotion. Which is worthy of your pennies? Read on to find out!

Best New Beauty Products

I don’t want to admit it but … September is over. I know, it’s a shock considering it’s actually almost October but can you believe it? I swear it was only February last month but now we are rolling into the month of Pumpkin Spice lattes and Halloween-themed everything. Now that we’ve said goodbye to September let me show you which products launched that captured my attention.

Nearly 60 new products landed on my desk for their September launch and it was overwhelming just how good the competition between them were. The biggest competition was in the lips category …. so many new, shiny, pretty lippies! Which ones won me over? Let’s find out! Continue Reading

Best Hand Wash and Cleansers

Clean hands are more important than you may realise. We learn about cleaning our hands as a way to avoid germs making us sick, but did you know that dirty hands could also be causing your bad skin? Today, try to pay attention to how many times you touch your face. We do it subconsciously and it’s relatively harmless, unless you struggle with breakouts and blackheads.

Everytime we touch our face we transfer oils, germs and bacteria from our fingers to our fragile skin. When you have large, open pores the nasties you deliver to your skin will sit in there and make themselves at home. Avoiding this outcome can be as simple as having clean hands. Don’t worry though, clean hands can now be an enjoyable beauty experience as well because now we have some delectably hand cleansers to brighten things up. Here are some of the ones I’m currently using.  Continue Reading

Anastasia Brow Powder Duo

I fell in love with Anastasia’s brow products back in 2010 when I treated myself to one of her signature brow makeover’s. My brows had never looked so good and the products were a dream to work with. I picked up one of her maintenance kits to take home with me and in that kit was the original Brow Powder Duo in Medium Brown. It was like a little pot of gold that I never wanted to part with, so I used it sparingly because I knew getting it in Australia was just about impossible. The good news is that things have changed since then and now Anastasia Beverly Hills has exploded all over the world. With this in mind I decided to splash out and buy another of her Brow Powder Duo’s but this time in a slightly darker shade, Dark Brown.

The packaging has changed a lot since the original came out but now that I have ample brow powder to throw around I am going to review it for you.  Continue Reading

People For Plants rosehip, ginkgo, shea DAY CREAM

Organic skincare is nothing new but would you believe that most of the brands that claim their product is 100% organic are actually telling a few fibs? The fact is that there are so many organisations offering organic certification but none of them have the exact same standards. The People for Plant range is certified by Australian Certified Organic (ACO), Australia’s largest certifier for organic and biodynamic produce, responsible for certifying more than 70% of the Australian organic industry. They’re one of the strictest but that is exactly what PFP co-founders wanted. It’s also the reason you won’t see “100% organic” smacked on their packaging. Each PFP product lists the actual percentage of certified organic ingredients – like this day cream at 91.8%.

Anna Addicoat and Andrew Brown founded the brand with their good friend Jamie Durie (yes, THAT Jamie Durie) and as you would expect from Jamie’s love of plants, they only wanted to use the best in their product range. I’ve been learning a lot about this range since it launched in June 2013 and that is why I’ve chosen their Day Cream as the first review. Is it amazing or complete hogwash? Read on to find out.  Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
