October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month across the globe. It almost seems silly that it still includes the word “Awareness” because I don’t think there is any other cancer more publicised, more known to people, than breast cancer. I can’t speak for every nation but in Australia we have year round campaigns for breast cancer. Our radio stations go so far as to remind us to check for lumps on the first day of each month. Frankly, you can’t escape being aware of Breast Cancer. I have been a long-time supporter of all BCA/Pink Ribbon efforts but this year I have been starting to really look into where the money goes and I have to say, I have a bone to pick.

Have you heard of pink-washing? I had only just heard this term within the past few months but it has been something that has been present for many years. A Girl’s Gotta Spa wrote this compelling post back in 2009 and it really set a lightbulb off for me when I read it recently. Before we get into it, let’s understand what pink-washing is.  Continue Reading

I am an Australian Beauty Addict currently in the USA. There are some things that are going to be of high importance to me. One of those things is obviously going to be Beauty Stores. More specifically, Beauty Stores I have never been to and heard so much about. One of those stores is ULTA.

The Lead-Up

I have known for a long time that ULTA is not one of those stores designed for tourists. They are usually located in relatively suburban areas and for that reason I have never been able to find one on my previous trips to the USA. This trip I decided to make a concerted effort to locate one and make sure I schedule time to get there. That day was yesterday and despite the unwavering heat, I was very excited.

I decided to head to Town Square mall before hand as it was already half way between my hotel and ULTA at Silverado Ranch Plaza. Getting to Town Square was easy thanks to the amazing bus service known as The Deuce that runs up and down Las Vegas Boulevard. From there the only ‘easy’ way to get to Silverado Ranch Plaza is a Taxi ….. or hire a car but I can barely drive in Australia, there is no way I am attempting suburban USA. US $30 and one very chatty Taxi driver later, I was at ULTA. Continue Reading

It isn’t everyday that a reality TV star gets to launch their own cosmetic line. Is it just me or are you also thinking ‘THANK GOD’?

If you are a reality TV fan than you should be well aware of the Bravo TV smash hit, The Real Housewives of Orange County. While the OC version is just one of many in the ‘Real Housewives’ chain, it would have to be my favourite. Gosh. They are trashy. And I love it! Continue Reading

I have been a bit of a sooky Sally ever since New York got to have the GREATEST event called Vogue Fashion’s Night Out a couple weeks ago on September 10. It is basically a massive shopping event that is held all over the city at fashion houses, boutiques, salons, spas and stores to offer everything from discounts, services and giveaways (there are simultaneous events held in other cities around the world but New York is the BIG one). One of the biggest trends and publicity stunts of Fashion Night Out is the ever elusive Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
