Bioderma Atoderm Nourishing Cream

Dry skin needs a lot of extra TLC in my opinion. If you want smooth, healthy skin you have to fight to keep it hydrated, especially in summer. Internal and external sources of hydration are important to all skin types but extra dry skin can take a little more work to keep the thirst quenched. My dry skin is pretty tough and can get through most conditions relatively unharmed but in summer my legs can get so dry they reveal scales.

I need a body lotion that will hydrate my dry skin but is gentle enough on irritations as well as being highly effective to work fast and help my skin build a stronger barrier. Bioderma’s Atoderm range is specifically designed for dry and very dry skin. Having had success with the body wash, I wanted to try the lotion. Here are my findings.   Continue Reading

NYFW Beauty Products

I love travelling but for me the worst part is packing (and unpacking, to be honest). I’ve given you a few tips about packing previously but what on earth does a girl pack for New York Fashion Week? It’s a week of post-summer warm weather in a humid city, running around all parts of town, and glitzy fashionistas at swinging soirees. My beauty bag has to carry everything I need to survive the week and even after all these years of attending Australian Fashion Week I still have no idea what to pack until the very last minute.

I try to take miniatures of all my beauty products where possible and I try to avoid sachets or little packets, where possible. I recommend collating deluxe samples when they’re available as gift with purchase offers or as perks from your favourite beauty store (Sephora, I’m looking at you!). These are the beauty products that accompanied me to NYFW 2014.

Male Beauty Grooming

It’s been quite some time  since we covered the male beauty offerings. Things have come a long way with more and more brands realising that men care about their looks too. On September 7, 2014 Australia and New Zealand celebrate Father’s Day. In honour of that I’m showing you the latest releases for men, perhaps to inspire a great gift idea for your loved one.  Continue Reading

Seraphina Organics Love Me Tender Hand Wash

The importance of organic doesn’t just relate to the food we eat, it’s just as important for the products we use. Organic grown ingredients and the reduction of synthetic chemicals means we are giving our skin the best possible chance to live in harmony with the earth. As the environment has become substantially more important to me in recent years I find myself looking for general use products that align with my values. Hand wash is one of my latest obsessions.

Seraphina Organics is a home-grown Australian certified organic beauty brand focused on creating products for ultra sensitive skin. I’ve been using their Love Me Tender Hand Wash through chilly weather and moving houses, so I’m ready to give my review.  Continue Reading

Blind Pimple

I have been pretty stressed the past few weeks and it’s manifested in the form of blind pimples. In my opinion they are the worst kind of pimples. They sit beneath the surface, building pressure and there isn’t a head on them for you to burst. Mine generally form on my forehead or around my scalp line, which leaves me with a killer headache when the pressure is building up.

My mother believes the answer to all pimples is Methylated Spirits (aka Metho) to dry out the gunk. Personally, I don’t love the idea of putting something so astringent on a blind pimple because it has to travel through the skin, as opposed to a regular pimple that has a head. I figured it was about time to check with an expert what the best method was to eradicate them. Trilogy have just launched their new Blemish Control Gel so I took the opportunity to ask Trilogy’s in-house beauty expert, Corinne Morley, what exactly are blind pimples and how I can get rid of mine.  Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
