L'Occitane Verbena Verveine Fresh Shower Gel

Do you like to save a special scent for a time you think it’s more suited? I know, that sounds ridiculous. It’s something I never would have imagined I would do but when I first smelt the limited edition Verbena Fresh Shower Gel back in January I knew it was a perfect Spring/Summer scent for me. I’m not much of a florals and flowers girl, so the sweet, fresh, citrusy scent was exactly what I wanted during Spring. That meant that I had to stash away this product until just recently but now having used it for a couple of months I can definitely say the wait was worth it and the scent is just as I had hoped. So how did it perform as a shower gel? Let me tell you!  Continue Reading

Premium Spa Frangipani Body Wash

Sometimes a girl needs to feel like she can have a spa moment without going to the spa. Lately i’ve been feeling like I need that every morning. My stress levels have been ridiculously high and the only time I feel like I can relax for a minute (or 10) is my morning shower. When Premium Spa introduced me to their incredibly affordable line of spa-inspired body products I could quickly relate to their idea of making spa moments and every day thing.

I started off trialling their theory with the Frangipani & Coconut Body Wash because it sounds like a summer island holiday in a bottle. Considering it’s a blistering winter in Australia right now the possibility of a summer island holiday was incredibly appealing, even if it was only in my shower. Let me share how it turned out.  Continue Reading

Gift Guide Header (1)

Christmas can be a depressing time of year if you think about all the waste and consumerism, but it’s also a happy time of year and gift giving can be lots of fun. I like to think that a good way to take the sting out of Christmas & the holidays is by giving a gift of kindness, and in the beauty realm that can be done by choosing gifts that don’t use any animal products, or aren’t tested on animals, or simply contributed profits to charity. It would be great if we saw these options become more popular but for now the offering from a few select brands gives us more than what we need to bring some joy to our loved ones lives.

I have curated a list of my favourite cruelty-free, vegan or supporting charity gift ideas.  Continue Reading

Appelles Apothecary Delivery Box

Appelles is a brand I had not heard about previously but when a delivery from them recently landed on my desk I noticed a sudden shift in my office environment. A delightful fragrance filled the air, the mood was lifted and I had a sudden urge to sink into a deep bath tub for a warm nap. This was all before I even opened the box. I wanted to share with you some of the gorgeous goods I will trying out AND there is a special offer exclusive to The Plastic Diaries readers.

Who Are Appelles?

Before I show you the products, you have to know a few things about Appelles Apothecary that I think are important. All Appelles products are Australian designed and owned, this is important for our little country because very few things are made here using our wonderful natural resources. It wasn’t something I cared much about previously but the more I learn about how cosmetics are made the more interested I am in using locally sourced products.

Further more, the products are made using biodegradable ingredients; they use native Australian oil blends; not tested on animals; are paraben free; plastic packaging is 100% biodegradable using Ecopure products; and finally, all packaging is fully recyclable, environmentally friendly and printed using biodegradable soy-based inks. What all that comes down to is these products are just as good for the environment as they are for you. I am not a hippy but I do lean to the green side and all this makes me feel really good about using these products. Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Dermaquest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser

Face cleansers are seen as quite an underrated product in terms of our overall skincare needs, but they’re actually really important. The correct cleanser for your skin should remove dirt, debris and build-up that otherwise gets in the way of your other skincare products delivering their best results. A vast majority of skin issues can be activated simply by using the wrong cleanser. When it comes to anti-aging, it’s essential to not use a face cleanser that is drying or stripping. Hydration is key, and that’s one of the major claims behind the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser.

As I continue my fight against aging and dry skin I’ve tested the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Facial Cleanser. Is it worth the price tag? Read on to find out.  Continue Reading

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
