Did you know 2 in 3 of your friends will be diagnosed with skin cancer at some point in their lives? I may count as one of those but who will the other be? With some easy precautions you can reduce the likelihood of it happening to you and your friends.

I’m always telling you about the importance of using sunscreen but today I’m sharing with you why I’m so passionate about sun protection. I was diagnosed with skin cancer at just 22 years old, and I hope that my story of skin cancer can help you prevent having one of your own.  Continue Reading

Lip Beauty Spot Pre-Op 4

Since I was a child I’ve had a beauty spot on my lip. Some call it a freckle, some a sun spot, some people (a lot of people!) even thought I just liked to chew on pens …. whatever you call it doesn’t matter, the fact is it was growing and spreading. It had been monitored all my life by dentists, GP’s and dermatologists and even though all of them said I had nothing to be concerned about, it still worried me about how often it was changing. From past experience I had learnt that just because a doctor says something doesn’t look like cancer doesn’t make it so. I didn’t want to run that risk any longer.

On Thursday I had my wisdom teeth out and I decided at the same time I would like my beauty spot removed. If you follow me on social media you probably would have seen some before shots but I wanted to update you quickly on how it’s going. The surgeon underestimated how big and deep the spot was. Not to be a pessimist but I always knew this spot was more trouble than it looked.  Continue Reading

MoleMap Dice

Did you know that I’ve previously had skin cancer? It’s a story I have spoken about on a few occasions so catch up here if you haven’t read it. It’s one of the key reasons I write about sun protection as much as I do (the other being it helps prevent aging). The thing is, even though I’m very strict about protecting my skin I’m rather lazy when it comes to checking my skin. The truth is … I actually haven’t had a skin check since the cancer was removed. Bad, I know!

Until Friday 31 January 2014, leading Australian sunscreen company Invisible Zinc are giving away 400 full body skin checks with MoleMap by Dermatologists, the world’s most thorough and trusted spot detection program. I was invited along to try the service and having done so I now regret not having my skin checked sooner.

I’m going to share with you my experience with MoleMap by Dermatologists and why I feel it’s an incredible service, but before I do, go register to win your own at Invisible Zinc. Continue Reading

Baby SunscreenLate last year I shared my story of skin cancer. It is obviously a topic close to my heart and today I want to share some very interesting information with you all. Despite my constant warnings on this blog and in my personal life to my loved ones, many still think it is safe to spend the day at the beach without a drop of sun protection. I thought about how my warnings could sound like nagging so today I am taking a different approach and looking into well-known research to see if there is in fact a time when my fellow Australian’s can have some fun in the sun without wearing any sun protection.

Female Hair Loss Before and After

Female hair loss and hair thinning are a growing sector within the beauty market. I used to think female hair loss was a beauty issue and as such could be treated with beauty products. Self-inflicted hair loss is my most common concern. I blamed my tight braids, hair irons and chemical damage. However, the fact remains that the leading causes for female hair loss are health related.

When my normal amount of hair fall dramatically increased, with noticeable receding of my hairline, I panicked. I didn’t know where to begin with treating it but I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I’d stop styling my hair in tight do’s, I rarely heat style and I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 2 years. I ruled out self-inflicted hair loss so I went straight to my GP (doctor) to ask for advice. It turns out that my female hair loss was completely reversible for less than $20!  Continue Reading

Beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries reviews Trefiel Lace Face Mask, Moisturising sheet mask skincare.

If you follow beauty on Instagram it’s highly likely you’ve seen the Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask. They look like a piece of black lace, often seen adorning the faces of cute beauty influencers. What they actually are is a range of sheet masks. Really pretty sheet masks.

The Trefiel Lace Sheet Mask is available in four formulations – Moisturising, Brightening, Repairing and Toning. Trefiel initially launched with just the Moisturising mask but later rebranded and added 3 more masks to the line-up. I chose to review their original Moisturising Face Mask.  Continue Reading
