Environmentally friendly candles - Do they exist

Eco-friendly and natural products are growing more and more popular as we all become aware of the devastating impacts humans have on our world. One of the little-known but constant debates amongst ethical consumers is whether burning candles is safe for the environment. Soy wax candles are particularly popular but are they any better for the environment, or are we just buying into a fad?

A scented candle can have such an incredible effect on our mood so it’s little wonder that they are so popular today. I adore a fresh, zesty scent in my bathroom to make it feel clean, and a woody, oriental fragrance in my living room for cosying up on the couch. Scented candles can be what makes a house a home but is it worth it if it’s costing us the planet? I answer all these questions with some help from Vanessa Megan and take a look at what your scented candle options are if you want to keep burning them.  Continue Reading

Pureology Hydrate Haircare Collection

One question that comes up a lot in the vegan community is if there are any professional haircare brands that are vegan. At first glance you would think it would be an impossible task to find one but I was recently informed by RY that one of L’Oreal’s professional brands, Pureology, is in fact vegan. I thought they must have been smoking something because there was no way I would believe a brand as iconic as Pureology was actually vegan. After checking the trusted resources of Leaping Bunny and PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies I was delighted to find that they are 100% vegan – every single product – cruelty-free to the max. Queue me squealing like a girl and making a shopping list in my head of products I wanted to try.

To begin with I have chosen the Hydrate Shampoo and Condition products as I have been told by many people they are an outstanding example of the Pureology range. Read my review to find out if these products are worth the hype.  Continue Reading

Environ Ionzyme C-Quence Eye GelI usually don’t have a preference over formula when it comes to eye products. Eye cream, eye serum, eye gel – they are all good to me, but I must admit that there is nothing quite like the feeling of a cool gel on tired, puffy eyes. It is so refreshing and it has the power to snap life back into the deadest of eyes. I have been working pretty hard of late so that is why I decided to give the Ionzyme C-Quence eye gel a try from Environ. How did it perform? Read my review to find out. Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
