Sephora Makeup and Beauty Haul from USA by Australian beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries Blog

It’s been a long time since I’ve truly been beauty shopping. When I say “beauty haul” I don’t mean going to my local drugstore or Sephora and picking up a mascara or lip balm. When I beauty haul, I HAUL! One of my absolute favourite places to do that is Sephora in the USA.

I haven’t been to the USA since 2014 so I was well overdue for a Sephora.com haul. When my cousin told me he was coming to visit me from New York I jumped at the opportunity to get some goodies. I actually had an outstanding balance on a gift card I got years ago so I had to use that up anyway. It might sound silly but it’s a small way that I can still feel connected to the country and people I have grown to love so very much.

So what did I buy? I’ll reveal it to you but I’ll admit I regret not getting more. I’m currently in the process of a massive office cull so I was trying to be reserved and not get anything as an impulsive purchase. These are items I had on my want list for a really long time.  Continue Reading

FOA Cosmetics Tinted Moisturiser Review

One of my long-time favourite Australian brands is Face of Australia. I’ve been using their products for years and they used to be a strong, reliable producer of certified cruelty-free cosmetic products. However, things have changed dramatically in the past couple years and it has saddened me. They ditched the cruelty-free certification (which makes their status a mystery as you are purely taking them on their word), promotion of new releases has been silent and their website is in desperate need of a makeover. Despite my own little pet peeves I feel going on, I can’t help but been drawn to their products when I do see them. For that reason, I will continue to review their cosmetics for now.

One of their more recent releases were an updated line of Tinted Moisturisers, now with SPF50+ as opposed to their earlier SPF30+ product. I’m not keen on tinted moisturisers generally because the tints are usually too dark for my skin or they appear muddy. I wanted to try the Face of Australia Tinted Moisturiser anyway as the appeal of an SPF50 was strong for me. Would this one be any different? Could this be the tinted moisturiser game changer?  Continue Reading

Skincare Application Video Tutorial

Learning how to apply your skincare products is an important part of looking after yourself. Not all products should be applied in the same way and unless you were instructed on how to apply the products you’re using, you may actually be assisting your skin to form lines or lose elasticity at a faster rate. This is why I’ve created a quick video tutorial on how to apply skincare products.   Continue Reading

Professional beauty blogger Kimberly Nissen of The Plastic Diaries shares her personal blogger burnout story and experience

This article is Part 1 of a three-part series about my personal experience with Blogger Burnout – My Demise + My Recovery + My Future

I started The Plastic Diaries in 2008, became a full-time blogger in 2010 and vanished from the blogging universe in 2015. Where did I go? Why? What happened to me? These are questions that have been asked of me during my 18+ month disappearance. The short answer was blogger burnout – a rarely spoken of condition that is fast becoming a serious concern amongst the influencer industry. Have you ever followed a blogger and notice that one day they have just disappeared? Their blog stopped posting new content, their social media went untouched – it happens often. In my almost 9 years of blogging I have lost count of the bloggers that have come and gone, most of which I have no idea why or where they went.

Upon my return to blogging at the end of last year I’ve put off explaining what exactly occurred in my life. I confided in a few select friends and trusted individuals about my story but I’ve brushed over it with the wider community by saying the cause was “personal stuff”. I don’t believe bloggers owe anyone an explanation when they disappear but I know that when my favourites have gone AWOL I’ve missed them and been concerned for their wellbeing. I didn’t want to be another blogger who vanished without a trace and leave you wondering. I also believe Continue Reading
